Salisbury Community Hub Library | Review

The Salisbury Library is a fantastic place for families to play, learn and come together as a community!

Salisbury isn’t often the first place I think of as a destination to venture out with children however my recent visit to the Salisbury Community hub has given me a new outlook on the local area. Pulling up to the front of the community hub we were so surprised to see the area buzzing with activities with kids playing outside on the playground, elderly couples sitting under the trees and the library overflowing with visitors.

Proposed in 2012 and delivered in 2019, the community hub and Salisbury city centre renewal project required a $43 million dollar investment and we can see why the council wanted to create this incredible space! The design is stylish, modern and innovative and so many of the element’s ooze that wow factor and make you want to spend longer in the space. The first thing that caught our attention was the giant screen out the front of the building in Civic Square and big floor to ceiling windows that allow you to peek inside and marvel at the facilities.

Moving inside the space there is a café to the lefthand side, multiple spaces with tables and chairs, a customer service pod, event spaces, a library, children’s area and an awesome padded staircase that is the perfect area to read, hang out and soak up the atmosphere. The children’s section is on the right-hand side and it feels well thought out and very inviting. There are toys, books, electronics and a nice carpeted area for small children to play. At the time of our visit this area was absolutely full with small children and their parents enjoying the space. Other elements that we liked were the ample seating options and the bright, light feel from the many windows surrounding the space.

Like lots of local libraries, the Salisbury Community Hub offers a plethora of programs and events for the community including giggle time, LEGO club, story time and digital literacy and technology programs for young and old.

The library as has a historical focus housing a local history collection, a selection of historical items and artefacts and bunch of old preserved hard copy newspapers.

We loved the facilities on site and we had such a good experience seeking supporting with the staff at the Community hub. We visited the onsite Justice of the Peace, had assistance from library staff to locate a certain book and even had help to photocopy some items. All of the staff members were so helpful and kind to our kids, offering stickers and book recommendations, it made our visit seamless and enjoyable.

So if you are yet to visit the Salisbury Library Community Hub, we recommend calling past Rami’s café for a munooshi (Lebanese pizza) for lunch, stopping in at JJ’s Hub café for a coffee, spending some time in the children’s section for a play before borrowing a book and visiting the playground at the front of the hub to wrap things up.

What we liked about it:

• Great facilities, toys for kids, playground out the front and lovely, helpful staff
• We also loved the cushions on the stairs!

Things to Consider:

• The playground out the front and the kids play section inside is small and can get quite busy during the school holidays and at peak times

Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:

• Rami’s cafe is great for food and Arabic coffee, the onsite cafe JJ’s also is a popular choice
