START at the Gallery: Lace It Up
The Art Gallery is going loopy for lace at START at the Gallery in June. Check out the cool patterns on display in Lace: The Art of Adornment then let your creative side loose by weaving and looping your own threaded masterpiece. This month is also your first chance to make a work of art for the START Art Prize. Make a detailed portrait and leave it with the START Team. Entries will be on display at the August START day.
START at the Gallery: Lace It Up is FREE thanks to The Balnaves Foundation and is at the Art Gallery of South Australia on Sunday 1 June from 11am to 3pm. Suitable for ages 5 to 10 years. See the Art Gallery of SA website here for more information.

Sunday 1 June, 11am-3pm
Children’s tours | 11am, 11.30am, 12 noon, 12.30pm, 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm
Visit the special display, Lace: the Art of Adornment with children’s guides to see the Gallery’s collection of bobbin and needle laces spanning 400 years.
Location: Meet in the Santos Atrium
Yarnbombing | 11am – 3pm
Make a pompom and French knit to help dress Emile Antoine Bourdelle’s sculpture in the Gallery courtyard.
Location: Marquee, Sculpture Courtyard
Looming Crazy! | 11am – 3pm
Get hooking and looping to weave a band of intricate pattern of knots and colour (suitable for children aged 5 and over only).
Location: Radford Auditorium
START Art Prize | 11am – 3pm
This month is your first chance to make a work of art for the START Art Prize. Make a work with as much detail as you can and leave it with the START Team. Entries will be on display at the August START day.
Location: The Studio
Soundscapes | 2pm – 3pm
The Fiddle Chicks will play their inspiring originals and unique arrangements of songs from the rich heritage of folk music including their fiddle soundscapes using some clever digital effects.
Location: Marquee, Sculpture Courtyard

Dance with Dorrit, Sunday 6 July
See the stage performers in Dorrit Black’s work of art and then, using the technique of collage, create your own imaginary character and stage set. This will also be your last chance to make a work of art for the START Art Prize.
Copy a copy, Sunday 3 August
Can you spot the ‘copies’ in the Mortimer Menpes exhibition? You be the detective on our exhibition tours. Then make your own copy of a masterpiece to take home.
