Tea Tree Gully Library | Review
The newly developed children’s area at Tea Tree Gully library makes this an exceptional spot for children to read, learn, and get involved with their community.

Tea Tree Gully library is a large, sprawling library with fantastic facilities. The new children’s area, inspired by the life cycle of the butterfly, includes plenty of whimsical touches like wooden trees, window boxes, a caterpillar and reading pods. The books have been rearranged to make it easier for children to find their favourite book series, and there are interactive book reading tablets, DVDs and puzzle books to borrow. You can also access a range of wellbeing kits that explore topics such as mindfulness, feelings, gratitude and confidence.
Make sure to check out the tunnel through the entrance tree – look up to find out what you can see! Snuggle up with a book by the window in one of the reading pods, or sit on the benches under the tree and spot the fairy door.
Don’t forget the impressive butterfly seat!
There are wonderful tablets in the children’s section that allow children to select age appropriate books and have them read to them (as well as games like memory). Perfect for encouraging kids to read.
There are multiple self-checkout machines throughout the library, and don’t forget that you can borrow with any SA Libraries Card (free to join).
Don’t miss the book return section either! Pop your books through the chutes and watch the conveyor belt move and sort your books through the window. While visiting, we overheard a staff member saying the conveyor belts are powered by hamsters… and we’re not going to argue with that!
There is a toy library on site as well, and plenty of activities running – just check the large screen near the entrance to see what’s on. The toy library hours are different, and you’ll need to pay a membership to access the toy library (currently $35)allows you to
borrow 3 toys and 1 literacy kit per child for a 4 week period. The toy library is run by a fantastic group of staff and volunteers that are passionate about toys and supporting children to learn and play. Inside you will find a catalogue of over 2000 toys covering a wide range of developmental stages and interests.
They even offer costumes for hire, which they recommend booking early for peak times such as book week. Alongside toys they have hire items for parties that can be borrowed for a small fee.
One of the fantastic things about Tea Tree Gully Library is that it’s open in the evenings a couple of days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays until 8pm. There’s also a cafe on site, open from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. (Dates and times as at July 2026)

The library is easily accessed from North East Road and Montague Road, with a huge carpark. It sits adjacent Civic Park and across North East Road from Tea Tree Plaza.
