Toniebox 2 + Bluey Tonieplay | Screen-Free Audio Player for Kids | Review
From tiny characters and big stories to games, music and surprisingly handy household help, the Toniebox 2 packs a lot of screen-free fun into one box.

We’ve been trying out the Toniebox 2 with our girls, aged 4 and 7, along with Tonie characters, Tonieplay games and some very cute Bluey accessories. The Toniebox is a screen-free audio player designed to be simple enough for young children to operate themselves.
Kids simply pop a magnetic Tonie character on top to start listening, squeeze the little ears to change the volume and hit the sides to skip forwards or backwards.
Miss 4 took to it immediately – and claimed it as her toothbrushing companion!
Toniebox 2
The Toniebox is sturdy, slightly squishy, easy-to-clean and very kid-friendly. It’s super easy for little hands to operate without constantly calling for parental assistance.
They come in a range of attractive colours; ours is the Tropical Teal.
Miss 4 has used other audio players before, but this is one she can confidently use herself. We also love the solid little Tonie figurines and the satisfying magnetic ‘clunk’ when you pop one on top.
Take the character off and the audio stops. Put it back and it continues where you left off. Even hovering the character above the box can get it going; something toddlers will probably discover very quickly!
Setup through the Tonies app took about five minutes, although we’d recommend doing it before giving the Toniebox to your child so it’s ready for action straight away. You will need wi-fi connectivity to get it going.
It charges quickly with a USB-C charger (which you’ll need to purchase if you don’t already have one), has a long-lasting battery, and we love that the app shows how much charge is left.
It also has a colourful ring light that’s fun during play, plus a sleep timer with a gentle fading light and sunrise alarm for morning routines.
Stories, songs… and getting your kids to brush their teeth
To get you started, the Toniebox 2 comes with Rubie, a Creative Tonie figure, which lets you add up to 90 minutes of your own or free audio content from the app. This feature was a surprise hit with us.
It’s super easy to link your Creative Tonie to free content in the app, which includes stories, music, mindfulness, educational tracks and songs from popular children’s entertainers – but we particularly liked the everyday routine helpers.
We tried and loved timers for waking up, getting dressed, leaving the house and brushing teeth. Both girls, especially Miss 4, regularly pop on the Toothbrush Express before bed, which is a win in our book!
You can also record your own stories or messages onto a Creative Tonie. There are even read-along templates to make recording a story easy. I tried the Sleepy Whale Story and nearly put myself to sleep listening back to my own recording!
There’s a wide range of popular character figures available to purchase in store or online – including everyone’s favourite blue heeler – to unlock fun audio content, such as stories and music.
Two months down the track, we have now added Gabby’s Dollhouse Fairy Kitty, Angelina Ballerina, Enid Blyton and Julia Donaldson stories to our collection. We love the high-quality figurines and engaging content.
We recommend playing the audio samples and reading reviews on the website to help you (and your child) choose.
Tonieplay – where things get extra fun
Add a magnetic Tonieplay controller and game disc to turn the Toniebox 2 into an interactive, screen-free game.
We tried Bluey: Play All Day and this was SUPER FUN FOR REAL LIFE.
Turn the controller to choose different games inspired by Bluey episodes, featuring the familiar character voices, music and a narrator guiding kids through the action.
There are activities involving fine motor skills as well as some that get kids moving – Dance Mode, anyone?
Miss 4 often struggles with independent play, but after a little help getting started with the Tonieplay disc, she was happily operating the game and playing by herself.
It also works well for siblings to play together – or to put Mum into Dance Mode in the lounge room.
We’ve now added more games to our collection, including Time Academy rated for ages 7+, which was a big hit with our older girl. Lalalinos: Find the Photo – a search and find game with a small book – has been played on repeat by our younger daughter.
We’ve even used Tonieplay as an alternative to TV time, with the girls on their feet engaging in Dance Mode and Featherwand activities instead of sitting on the couch.
And then there’s all the Bluey stuff…
Bluey fans are very well catered for. As well as a Bluey Tonie character and Tonieplay game, there is a Toniebox sleeve and the Listen & Go Bag, with the latter becoming one of our favourite accessories ever.
It holds the Toniebox, characters, game discs and controller, with clever little places for everything. In fact, Miss 7 worked out where everything went before I did. If only I had this level of on-the-go storage organisation in my own life!
While the Toniebox itself is robust enough for little hands, the sleeve provides extra protection and an extra level of cuteness and connection for Bluey fans.
What we think
The Toniebox 2 is recommended for ages 1–9+, and we think it particularly shines for younger children. Toddlers can enjoy it from the start, then grow into its simple controls and more interactive features. We also love the fast charging and long battery life.
With high quality figurines unlocking fun content, Tonies are the perfect way to kick off your child’s life-long love for stories and music.
Tonieplay cleverly adds another level of fun, with interactive stories and games that encourage problem solving, learning, independent and social play, and even physical activity. Both girls have been loving the gameplay feature (as has Mum!).
Plus, with so many Tonies and accessories available, it’s easy to tap into whatever your child loves – Bluey in our case! We especially recommend the Listen & Go Bag for keeping everything together at home or on the go.
The only catch? You’ll probably want to keep adding to the collection! Luckily, Tonies make easy birthday and Christmas gift ideas, while you can update your Creative Tonie with free content from the app or record your own.
Most of all, we love how the Toniebox 2 has found a place in our everyday family life – making morning routines more fun, playing stories over meals or drawing time, encouraging afternoon games or dance breaks, and even helping with bedtime toothbrushing and lullabies.
All without a screen.
