Velvet & Willow Cafe | Auburn | Review

Step inside a secret garden, stop for a bite to eat and enjoy the beautiful, family friendly atmosphere of Velvet & Willow.
Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji
A few weeks ago, my family and I decided to take a trip to the Clare Valley. Before jumping in the car with the kids, we spent time planning out our day to make sure we found the most worthwhile stops. Velvet and Willow cellar door, pantry and café was a place that was recommended by so many locals, we knew we had to make a stop and we can’t tell you how glad we are that we did.

Velvet & Willow is located in the gorgeous town of Auburn on the main street behind a white picket fence and surrounded by beautiful trees and greenery. It’s a café / winery / garden / pantry and it’s as pretty as a picture! As soon as we stepped foot inside the kids spotted some blocks and toys to play with and started building a castle under the outdoor veranda and we knew we had picked a winner.

Making our way inside we grabbed some coffees and babyccinos as well as a treasure map to take us right around the property and help us secure a passport stamp for the Children’s University booklet. The service was quick and warm, the treats were tempting and we loved sitting in the garden sipping a warm drink and listening to the birds whilst the kid’s enjoyed the toys provided.

After finishing our drinks, we had a wander to look for the items laid out on the map. Our search took us all through the onsite Henry Wylie heritage garden and even to a small door inside where we had the chance to hear a story about horse betting in years gone by.

The time we spent at Velvet & Willow flew by so quickly, we could have enjoyed the premise for hours. We loved the beautiful garden, cosy café, delicious coffee and relaxed family friendly atmosphere. The kids loved the creek that ran through the property, the big garden space, the onsite toys and the fact that other patrons bought their dogs.

Velvet and Willow is a quaint café offering breakfast, sandwiches, light lunches and delicious baked goods in a cosy setting with the most beautiful garden surrounding it. It’s a great place for a multigenerational visit as it’s calm and filled with history but it also offers something for kids and young families in search of an artisan coffee. We feel it’s a perfect first stop for a Clare Valley visit and we will rush to return next time we are in the area.

What we liked about it:
- Beautiful garden setting, good coffee, toys for kids and the opportunity to achieve a Children’s University stamp
Things to Consider:
- As well as a cafe and pantry, Velvet & Willow is a cellar door with accommodation in the Clare Valley
- The menu is limited to light lunch, breakfast items and sweet treats
Location:
17 Main North Road, Auburn
