Wateroo floating pontoon at Wallaroo | Copper Coast’s latest free water attraction

wateroo copper coast wallaroo

Wateroo is the Copper Coast’s latest FREE attraction, officially opened on 3 April 2017. It’s a huge floating pontoon area within the safety of shark proof netting.

The facility is made of two parts; the pontoon and the attenuators.

The attenuators (the 3 large black pipes) hold the nets and create a large safe swimming area. The pontoons are positioned to create two swimming areas; a large 50m x 25m pool and a smaller, shallower area that is 25m x 9m.

They are designed to handle all known Spencer Gulf conditions and are designed to be very flexible so that they do not break. This means that when the sea is rough, the pontoons will twist and flex with the movement of the water. Therefore, in these conditions the enclosure’s gates will be closed and there will be no access to the facility.

The pontoons are connected to the sea floor by 64 large bungee cords (Seaflex). These cords stretch to allow for the rising tides and storm events. See the video below for a great view of the pools.

This is a wonderful addition to the other water fun facility in the area – Splash Town water park at Moonta Bay. See our post about Splash Town here.
