Adelaide Aquatic Centre – a look at the upgraded swimming centre
The Adelaide Aquatic Centre in North Adelaide has been renovated and without too much convincing the kids were pretty eager to check it out.
The family leisure pool is a large play space with new water play areas and splash pads. Spouts of water spray up sporadically and you can run through the spray hoops, going from one side of the pool to the other. This pool has depths varying from 0 to .9m with steps at different spots.
Waterslides
Adjacent to this are the waterslides, an open one and the other is a tube. My 6 year old son enjoyed going through the water sprays, hopping from one pool to another and going down the waterslides, repeating this over and over.
Water dumpers
Rather than one of those big buckets which dumps a lot of water quite fiercely, the Adelaide Aquatic Centre has opted for a few of these smaller water dumpers, which are less frightening for younger children.
Diving platform and springboards
If you are a little bit braver and a competent swimmer, there’s the 3 metre diving platform to jump off as well as the 1m and 3m springboards. Miss 10 enjoyed jumping off the 3 metre platform over and over.
Thrill and Spill programme
If you are there on a Sunday, they often have their ‘Thrill & Spill’ program which includes a huge 7.5 metre giant inflatable slide which comes off the 10 metre diving platform, plus a 13 metre fun obstacle course run. You need to be 8 years old & over and a competent swimmer to take part in these thrills. Unfortunately the huge slide wasn’t there when we visited.
Outside space
On nice days the glass doors are opened up and there are grassy areas outside with tables and chairs for you to have a picnic or enjoy the outdoors.
There is also a big lap pool which isn’t pictured above as we didn’t swim in it with the kids. We left this area to the serious swimmers.
Please note that on Saturdays there are swimming classes on so parts of the leisure pools are closed off to the general public.
There is a free car park at the centre and the Bush Magic Playground (one of our favourite playgrounds for under 5s) is adjacent.
