The City of Adelaide is bringing the gift of joy and cheer this Christmas with a range of community events, maker markets, window displays and live performances this festive season. Friday 13 November – Friday 25 December 2020.
CHRISTMAS WINDOWS, RUNDLE MALL
Rundle Mall is set to sparkle again this Christmas with the installation of their delightful window displays, bringing Christmas cheer to those shopping, socialising and sightseeing in the Mall until the New Year. Completely free to view, there are ten gorgeous window displays to enjoy.
GIANT CHRISTMAS TREE – VICTORIA SQUARE
Lighting up on Friday 13 November, head into the city via the tram, train or park in the Adelaide Central Market carpark and watch a 15 minute light display on the Giant Christmas Tree in Victoria Square. The tree will light up every night at 8.00pm until 2.30am. Kids will also love running through the water fountain on warm evenings, so pack a spare change of clothes!
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS AROUND ADELAIDE
There’s nothing quite like seeing neighbourhood houses all sparkling and lit up with Christmas lights in the lead up to Christmas, especially when entire streets get involved. It’s a lovely display of community spirit and we expect lots of suburbs to go the extra mile this year. Plus, its free for all to enjoy! See our guide of the Best Streets to see Christmas lights around Adelaide.
CHERRY PICKING – PICK YOUR OWN CHERRIES
Cherries! There’s nothing that says summer more than when fresh, juicy, sweet, local cherries are finally available. When the cherry season arrives it reminds us that Christmas is near. There are numerous locations in the Adelaide Hills and around the Fleurieu Peninsula where families can enjoy cherry picking and buying direct from cherry shed door sales. The season is from late November to January.
LOBETHAL LIGHTS – ADELAIDE HILLS
The iconic Lobethal Lights Festival will not be going ahead in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, however homes and businesses will still be putting up their Christmas lights for all to enjoy.
CHRISTMAS TREE FARM – CHANDLERS HILL
There is plenty to see and do for the whole family at Christmas Tree Farm in Chandlers Hill. Not only can you buy a fresh, real Christmas tree, you can also explore their acres of farmland, take photos with their reindeer mascot, enjoy a tractor ride, pick up some gifts and decorations from the Gift Shop, and even feed some animals in the Petting Zoo.
SANTA’S WONDERLAND – ADELAIDE SHOWGROUND
Watch their eyes light up as they enter this magical wonderland filled with music, beautiful Christmas displays, activities, rides, ice skating, tobogganing, live performances, and Santa. Santa’s Wonderland is on from 10-28 December 2020.
THE MAGIC CAVE – DAVID JONES, RUNDLE MALL
Until Christmas Eve, families can visit Father Christmas in a safe and interactive environment in the Magic Cave, plus this year for the first time families can stop by the Grand Piano for some enchanting Christmas tunes. The Magic Cave has Christmas window displays with moving characters, a free carousel and funny mirrors. Find the Magic Cave on the 2nd floor of David Jones in Rundle Mall. Online bookings are essential this year.
MYER SANTALAND – RUNDLE MALL
In the lead up to Christmas, the Santaland Express Train is at Myer for families to jump aboard and ride to visit Father Christmas. Disney is also bringing some extra fun to Santaland this year with a special Christmas experience for the whole family – two selfie photo boxes – one a Frozen 2 theme, the other a Star Wars experience. Families are welcome to take their own photos here. Star Wars fans will particularly like the life-sized Darth Vader made from LEGO. Online bookings for Santa photos are essential this year.
