Sellicks Beach | Beautiful Silver Sands | Review

Sellicks Beach – also known as Silver Sands – is a South Australian treasure!

The view on the drive down Sellicks Beach Road is breathtaking as the coastline comes into sight.  Only an hours drive from Adelaide makes getting there a breeze and it’s the ideal environment for a family day in the sun.

Sellicks Beach is where the Mount Lofty Ranges meet the sea, providing spectacular scenery as steep cliffs suddenly give way to a long, flat stretch of sandy beach. The coastline here is renowned for its gentle waves, plentiful fishing  and boat launching facilities.  The strip of beach between Aldinga Beach and Sellicks is Silver Sands, yet the whole stretch is generally referred to as Silver Sands.

A flat, firm beach composed of fine sand, it’s the perfect place to set up for a day at the beach with family and friends.  The evenings are especially memorable as the sunset over the hills makes for a stunning backdrop to the calm waters below.

Below the Esplanade vehicles are allowed to drive onto the beach at Sellicks so you won’t need to carry your gear very far (regular car parking is also available if you prefer not to and please note a vehicle access fee is payable between December and March during peak times).   Be sure to bring a shade canopy as once you set up you’ll want to stay for a while!  The water is clear and the waves are relatively small.   The beach is so flat it’s the perfect place to get active on the sand with a game of cricket or footy.

There is always something to do along the gulf with many different activities including swimming, sandcastle building, sailing, walking, running, snorkelling, fishing and beachcombing.  Be sure to pack buckets and spades for the kids!

There is a playground located at Aldinga Beach a few kilometres from Sellicks.

Public holidays, such as Australia Day, and school holidays during the summer months are particularly busy here.   Always check the weather before heading down to this beach as the wind can pick up along the coastline, but even in winter it’s still a beautiful spot to unwind.

If you haven’t yet experienced Sellicks be sure to add it to your list of places to go.  The scenery, the sand and the water make for the perfect family day out.  Enjoy a long walk along the water’s edge, absorb the view and breathe in the sea air.

Esplanade, off Sellicks Beach Road, off Main South Road.
