Kensington Park Oval Playground Review | City of Burnside

Kensington Park Oval Playground

The Parade, Kensington Park

The Kensington Park Oval Playground has had a revamp and re-opened at the end of August 2020. It’s a nature play inspired space with a combination of soft fall surface and bark chips. New play equipment has been installed and new fencing around the road side. Please note that it is not fully fenced and opens to what my kids have always called a little forest along the fence, and to the open oval area.

The previous high look-out which slightly older kids liked the challenge of climbing up, has been replaced with one that’s not so high, and makes it easier for younger kids. The new slide is nice and wide.

The rope climb on one side below is still a good challenge for climbers.

Below is a timber springy boat for fun imaginative play.

There are three different types of swings including a double swing (two person one) which allows you to sit and swing with your toddler, or swing two kids at once.

Nature inspired aspects include this fabulous platypus sculpture and timber logs for balancing or sitting.

The previous balancing ropes have been replaced with this mini ninja obstacle course that younger kids will enjoy.

As you can see below the fencing stops towards the back of the playground. Kids can wander over to the Oval and into the bushes, as well as back onto The Parade. Many people walk their dogs in this area so please be aware of this too.

The ‘bush forest’ along the playground offers a great nature play experience – but be aware that you might not be able to see kids amongst some of the bushes.

The trails near the playground and track around the Kensington Park Oval are good for bikes.

The Oval offers plenty of grassy space for ball games (when it’s not being used on the weekend for sports games).

There is a toilet just near the playground including a disabled one and change table.

There is a shelter and picnic table but if you’re planning on having a catch up or party here, you might want to bring your own as this might be taken.

The new timber based playground blends nicely with the environment and is a great spot suited for younger kids, especially those under 8 years old.
