Stanley Bridge Tavern Review

The Stanley Bridge Tavern in the Adelaide Hills has a fantastic outdoor dining space with plenty of space for the kids to roam, great food and a welcoming atmosphere.

The Stanely Bridge Tavern was established in 1853 and has been popular with the locals for many years. It is located in Verdun, 5 minutes drive from the roundabout at the Hahndorf freeway exit and about 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.  The front bar has changed very little since the hotel was bought by its current owners in 2016 and parts of the tavern still retain some fabulous historical features like beautiful stonework and shingle ceilings.

However, the tavern has been recently rejuvenated and feels fresh with a modern touch but still warm and welcoming. There is a large indoor dining area and smaller rooms for more intimate gatherings plus an outdoor eating area, perfect for lunches in fine weather and dinners on balmy evenings.

There is also a bottle shop onsite with a great range of unique wines from across Australia and the world.

The outdoor area looks out onto paddocks dotted with big old gum trees and a small creek so there is plenty of space for kids to run around, play in the creek bed and climb trees.

There is pretty good visibility from the outdoor dining areas to see what kids are up to as well.

The food is fresh and very reasonably priced, the chips and wedges are tasty and crunchy and the parmies are huge! There’s a great menu with pub favourites, plus a selection of more exotic dishes.

There is a good kids menu with a pasta dish, fish and chips and pizza. You can even request the kids fish to be grilled rather than battered.

We’d definitely recommend The Stanley Bridge Tavern as a place for an easy family meal, catch up with friends or even a girls night out.
