‘Blitz Meets the City’ at North Adelaide Golf Club – Review

Blitz Golf is a head-to-head mash-up of golfing greats and celebrity hotshots, ready to swing big. Plus, live entertainment, food trucks, a kids’ zone, free children’s show bags, and more.

Mini golf is something I love doing as a group activity with the fam.

So, I was excited to learn that the Blitz golf tournament was heading to North Adelaide Golf Club on Easter Monday (April 18, 2022).

Rather than mini golf, though, it’s the real thing! Even better, entry was free albeit ticketed. (VIP corporate packages were also available.)

Dubbed Blitz Meets the City, the event was the final day of the four-day Festival of Golf.

It was also Australia’s richest single-day golf event, the Blitz Golf PRO Series Final. Ka-ching, ka-ching!

As the promo material says, Blitz golf is “faster, louder, bolder … [it’s] the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to golf. Our events create a carnival atmosphere around a stadium hole and follow our unique format with three progressively shorter rounds. It’s not golf; it’s BLITZ.”

Entertainment for the family-friendly arvo included DJ music, free children’s showbags, roaming performers, and a kids’ zone, with MC Jarrod Walsh overseeing the action. Lunch was supplied by Fork On The Road food trucks. (We tucked into yummy burgers, jalapeno poppers, fried chicken, and more.)

In between, there was, of course, golf to spectate. Leading professionals – including the likes of Peter Senior – went head-to-head with celebrity sports stars such as West Adelaide footballer Hamish Hartlett. (My kids were particularly excited to see the latter.)

The celebrities and pros played six holes of golf, with the top 16 players of the 36-player field advancing to round two. Three holes were played in this round before the top four progressed to a sudden-death final.

All the action revolved around a central village and stadium hole, which made for a great atmosphere.

Nicknamed the “T20 of golf”, Blitz is a great way to get into golf as a family.

(NB. North Adelaide Golf Course – in the beautiful Adelaide Park Lands – is open for all. Book a round for a day out on the green here.)
