California Reserve Playground | Craigmore

California Reserve Playground in Craigmore – Review

By Claire Davill

California Reserve in Craigmore has undergone a massive upgrade, as part of the City of Playford’s Four Parks Project. There’s plenty to do here, from a fabulous playground to a basketball court, plenty of open lawn and exercise equipment.

The upgrade provides a variety of playground equipment to challenge smaller kids as well as older kids. The central tower includes smaller platforms and small slide and climbing wall at one end, which is suitable for smaller kids. A rope bridge leads to the taller tower with lots of climbing nets and a huge tube slide that’s sure to delight more adventurous kids.

A fun spinning climbing net, activity boards and springy ride-on equipment surround the central tower.

Further out, there’s a small in-ground trampoline, merry go round, basket swing and some lovely stepping stones and logs under plenty of shady trees. There’s lots of new landscaping and shrubs, and the existing gum trees provide shade over the whole playground area.

A nice, big, partially fenced basketball court is a feature, and there are also plenty of benches and picnic tables surrounding the equipment – some under shelter with barbeques included. Across the large lawned areas is a collection of exercise equipment, but this is quite separate from the rest of the playground.

The reserve is currently unfenced, but it looks like a fence along one section of California Avenue is in the process of being constructed. There are also no toilets on site, or nearby, so take this into consideration when planning your visit.

There is off-street parking accessible from California Avenue next to a small block of shops. There is a burger bar here as well as a small convenience store and a chemist.

Location:

Corner of California Avenue and Venice Court, Craigmore
