Glenelg Film Festival | 23 Mar 2024

Glenelg Film Festival has announced its inaugural festival event celebrating film and culture will take place at Glenelg’s Colley Reserve.

This Festival Event will hold world premieres for three films and an awards ceremony with screenings of short films by independent film makers and producers, before concluding with a dynamic film hub at Colley Reserve.

The Glenelg Film Festival began monthly screenings in May 2023 as part of a process to determine which films would show at the inaugural major Film Festival Event.  Over the course of the season, the monthly screenings have seen over eighty short films made by local, national and international film makers with audiences and judges shortlisting fourteen films to determine six award winners for the Festival Event.

The six categories considered for the 2024 awards are:

  • Best Actor
  • Best Cinematographer
  • Best Sound
  • Best Art Department
  • Best Director
  • Best Film

Genres including but not limited to are Sci-Fi, Comedy, Thriller, Animation, Drama and Romance.

Colley Reserve will be transformed into a lively hub for film-lovers and industry professionals alike, hosting local food and beverage stands, activations, performances, educational recruitment stalls for those interested in film studies, as well as industry memorabilia and retailers.

In the evening, the focus will turn to an outdoor cinema space where the Glenelg Film Festival Awards Ceremony will take place with winning films from the Festival Event being screened, followed by an open-air celebration.

Festival Co-Director Sarika Young said Colley Reserve will come alive with activations and demonstrations of skills such as stunts and choreographed fight scenes, with various opportunities for the public to observe and participate.

“We will open with a fabulous Welcome to Country and Aboriginal cultural dance. We will also showcase other cultural performance such as Bollywood Dance celebrating Bollywood film, and Latin performances. All of this will display Australia’s mix of cultural diversity, especially in the film industry,” Sarika continued.

Festival Co-Director Nick Buckland continued,

“There will be ticketed seating at Colley Reserve for nominees and guests but the event is free and open to the public.”

“We are urging the people of Holdfast Bay and beyond to come and connect with the film industry in this community celebration of South Australian creatives,” said Nick.

The full Glenelg Film Festival program will be released closer to the date, along with tickets.
