Peter Pan – A Neverland Adventure: Adelaide Fringe 2024

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  Five stars for whimsical acrobatic fun.

Review by Sharon Harrington

Peter Pan – A Neverland Adventure weaves the timeless Peter Pan tale together with some seriously impressive acrobatics, aerials, juggling, slapstick and cheeky fun.

As soon as we enter the beautiful vintage Wonderland Spiegeltent, we notice the tent is a great size for being up close to the action on the circular stage. This is perfect for young children who may disengage if too far away from the performance and as an adult I love a great view too!

Before the show begins, the characters roam around the tent interacting with the audience. Our Play & Go kids loved helping to hide the mischievous Tinkerbell from the villainous Captain Hook and his bumbling first mate, Smee, and thought it was hilarious to be threatened with walking the plank! They were “hooked” before the show even started.

Captain Hook and Smee act as hosts of the show and provide much of the entertaining banter. They also join in with an epic group juggling session that has to be seen to be believed.

Tinkerbell is great fun and a crowd favourite in her glorious sparkly green fairy outfit. She twirls up high on a love heart swing and does all sorts of exciting acrobatics on top of her cast members shoulders and up ridiculously high.

Peter Pan is an amazingly talented acrobat. He seems to float loftily in the air when doing flips or aerials.

The two Lost Boys take turns flipping incredibly high into the air on “the Plank”, which is actually a large wooden seesaw. They were marvellous!

Wendy is just lovely in a soft blue dress, and performs the more whimsical parts of the show. Her aerial sequence swirling lovingly with Peter Pan is just gorgeous to behold. Also her solo silks sequence is divine.

Nana, Wendy’s massive shaggy dog, also makes an appearance, much to the delight of the crowd.

For those who love a circus show, but are looking for something with a story line and fun characters, this show is the way to go!

Peter Pan – A Neverland Adventure is at the Wonderland Spiegeltent at Wonderland Festival Hub – Hindmarsh Square until Sunday 17 March 2024.
