House Down Under – Inverted House Photo Experience Adelaide | Review

Step into a mind-bending photo adventure at the House Down Under in Kilburn, where every room turns reality upside-down for laughs and unforgettable family snaps.

Looking for one of the most Instagrammable spots in Adelaide right now? Look no further than House Down Under!

If you remember the life-sized dollhouse that popped up in Rundle Mall back in 2020 (just before the world turned upside-down!), this experience will feel familiar, but with a twist.

Instead of walking through a supersized dollhouse, you’re exploring a house where everything is literally upside-down. Furniture, décor, even the toilet … it’s all stuck to the ceiling, offering surreal and super-fun photo opportunities at every turn.

This topsy-turvy experience has wowed crowds in Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast, and now it’s landed in Adelaide. The temporary structure is set up in the rear carpark of the Churchill shopping centre (right behind Costco). You won’t miss it; the royal-blue weatherboard house stands out.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and had pre-purchased our tickets online, so we didn’t have to queue. Inside, though, it was quite busy. The rooms and hallways are fairly compact, so a bit of patience is needed to snap shots without other visitors in the frame.

Each room reminded us of an IKEA showroom, from a colourful playroom and cosy lounge to a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and entryway. There’s a unique photo opportunity in every space, and your pics will look even trippier when you view them later.

To access the second storey, there’s a narrow red spiral staircase, so the experience isn’t suitable for prams or anyone with mobility challenges. The tilted flooring and upside-down visuals can also make some guests feel slightly dizzy or disoriented, though it’s all part of the fun.

Friendly staff are on-hand to help take family (or group) photos, and you can stay as long as you like. My eleven-year-old twins had a great time laughing and striking creative poses within the inverted set-up.

Bonus: After your visit, it’s super-convenient to pop into Costco (if you’re a member) for a shop!

So, if you’ve ever wanted to dance on the ceiling like Lionel Richie or float like in that laughing scene from Mary Poppins, now’s your chance. Catch the House Down Under in Adelaide while you can.

Fun fact: The general manager of House Down Under, Osvaldas Anusaitis, previously competed in the Lithuanian Touring Car Championship – Superproduction category. Who knew?

Booking tips:
Tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket office. House Down Under also offers private bookings for events, photoshoots, or video shoots.

It can get busy during peak times, so be prepared for a wait. They use a digital queue system. Simply check in via QR code on arrival, grab a drink or snack nearby, and you’ll get notified when it’s your turn.
