Hopgood Theatre will throw open its doors for a Free Family Fun Day – a celebration for the whole community.
The Family Fun Day is your chance to celebrate the Hopgood Theatre’s spectacular $6 million transformation, explore its refreshed spaces and enjoy exclusive access to behind-the-scenes areas.
The afternoon will also feature a mix of hands-on workshops, creative play and performances, spread across multiple spaces in and around the theatre.
The day will include:
- Outdoor Entertainment and a community BBQ
- Cardboard City construction (suitable 5 – 12 years)
- Puppet Making (suitable 4 – 8 years)
- Animation workshops (5 – 15 years)
- Short film Screenings (suitable 4 – 8 years)
- Music Concerts & demonstrations (all ages)
- Storytime sessions (suitable 1y/o – 6 years)
- Costume creation & parades (suitable all ages)
- Family Friendly chill zone
- Behind-the-scenes tours (suitable 12 years +)
Families can move at their own pace, with activities repeating or running throughout the afternoon so you can go along for the whole event from 1pm – 4pm or drop in anytime to experience what’s on offer.
All arts activities are free, with food and drinks available to purchase at the sausage sizzle or at the theatre’s candy bar.

About the Hopgood’s transformation:
As the largest theatre in southern Adelaide, the Hopgood’s upgrade – funded by the Government of South Australia, led by the City of Onkaparinga and designed by Grieve Gillett Architects – includes:
- fresh interiors with state-of-the-art sound, lighting and acoustics
- a bold new vibrant pink identity
- improved accessibility, including 10 new wheelchair and companion seating spaces
- a revitalised front of house and bar
- a second, new intimate performance space for smaller productions
- improved back of house, green room and rehearsal spaces
An exciting calendar of shows is already locked in for the rest of 2025 and into the new year, including one of Australia’s most talented comedians Anh Do on 25 November 2025, and the internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir on 17 February 2026.
