Captain Jolleys Paddleboats – Elder Park, Adelaide

Captain Jolleys Paddleboats is a bit of an Adelaide institution at Elder Park.  I still remember riding on a paddle boat along the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri as a child.

Captain Jolleys Paddleboats are pedal powered boats offering plenty of outdoor fun and exercise for children, families and tourists exploring the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri in Adelaide.

It can be a fun activity to do after seeing a show at the Adelaide Festival Centre, when you are at Elder Park for a community event or just when you are in the city – Elder Park is a lovely spot to have a picnic, let the kids run around, roll down the hill or take a walk along the path that borders the river.

Hiring a Paddle Boat

You can hire a paddle boat from the banks of the Torrens just near the Rotunda by the Popeye mooring.  A single paddleboat is $20 for 30 minutes (as at January 2022).   The paddle boats can fit two adults and one small child, however it is up to the attendant digression on the day as to what will be permissible.

The paddle boats are operational most days (except Christmas Day), weather permitting.

For an economical activity that’s fun and suitable for all ages, the paddle boats are a great way to spend some time together, plus an added bonus is you also get a little bit of exercise too!

Going near the fountain is always popular and if you hire more than one boat with family or friends you can follow each other under the footbridge and back.  Keep an eye out for the swans, especially during breeding season.

While you’re in the city you could incorporate fun on the paddle boats with a relaxing ride on The Popeye too.

Bookings:

Only 2 paddle boats can be reserved online with a further 7 boats available for walk-ons. Private group paddles are also available for $100 for 30 minutes.
