A Family Day Out in McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast
A Family Day Out in McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast.
With its mix of stunning coastal views, pram-friendly trails, close-up encounters with native wildlife, and one of South Australia’s most iconic playgrounds, McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast are perfect for relaxed family day trips. It’s about stepping away from screens and routines to enjoy simple time together sharing adventures and creating family moments to remember.
If you’re visiting for the day, here’s a family-friendly itinerary to help you make the most of your time.
Stroll the Witton Bluff Base Trail
Begin your day by exploring the Witton Bluff Base Trail, an easy and pram-friendly walk linking Christies Beach to Port Noarlunga. The trail offers stunning ocean views and, if you’re lucky, dolphins playing just offshore.

Botanista Botanical Emporium
From Christies Beach, it’s just a 3 minute drive to Botanista Botanical Emporium in Port Noarlunga. Browse the lush indoor plants, create your own terrarium, or discover fairy garden treasures beneath the Fairy Tree. Don’t leave without finding the whimsical Magic Tree. A lovely stop for imaginative kids (and parents, too).

Feed Kangaroos at Woodstock Wines
Children will love feeding kangaroos at Woodstock Wines Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to rescued kangaroos. Families can join the daily kangaroo feeding sessions, giving kids a memorable hands-on experience with Australia’s iconic wildlife. Kangaroo Feeding Sessions are held daily at 11:30am and bookings are essential.
Stay for lunch in the cosy marquee pavilion beside the lawns and savour vibrant Gin Long Canteen lunches paired with your favourite Woodstock wines. Or, you can head to McLaren Vale where you’ll find a great range of eateries offering family friendly dining.

Walk or Ride the Shiraz Trail at McLaren Vale
While you’re visiting McLaren Vale, explore this beautiful region along the Shiraz Trail, a safe and scenic walking and cycling path that runs between McLaren Vale and Willunga. Stretching around 8 km, this former railway line offers flat, sealed paths perfect for kids on bikes, prams, or even scooters. Along the way, you’ll pass vineyards, gum trees, and picnic spots, making it a relaxing way to explore the wine region without needing the car.

Jubilee Playground – Wooden Fort at Port Noarlunga
When the kids need to burn some energy, Jubilee Playground in Port Noarlunga is the perfect stop. This huge wooden fort-style playground full of slides, bridges, and climbing towers is one of South Australia’s most loved play spaces. There’s plenty of shade, BBQ facilities, and space for kids to explore and use their imagination.

Tips for Families
