Allenby Gardens Reserve Accessible Playground
This is a fabulous inclusive playspace set in a family-friendly reserve and a great spot for a day out.

The City of Charles Sturt and WillPlay have come together to create this inclusive play space at Allenby Gardens Reserve. With custom-designed equipment by Willplay SA, this is their first wheelchair accessible play system.
There’s something for all ages and abilities here and plenty of opportunities to develop physical and social skills. Read on to find out what our little playground testers thought of Allenby Garden Reserve’s accessible playground.

Kids will love the pirate ship and fairytale play elements
The main play structure consists of a pirate ship complete with slide and rope climbing area which is connected to a castle tower with another, bigger slide. My kids made a beeline to this and spent ages clambering up and down it.
How much fun does this wonky castle-tower structure look? There are so many opportunities for climbing – not to mention creative play and social interaction.
The nice wide ramps are perfect for toddlers or children with limited mobility.

Our little playground testers loved the climbing structure and had a great time challenging each other to races to the top.

The reserve itself has loads of space to play for the bigger kids with a luscious green oval just perfect for kicking a footy on, plus a half basketball court for them to practise their cool moves.
Other play equipment
In addition to the main play area with the pirate ship and fairytale structure there is also a set of swings including a toddler swing and a basket swing, an accessible carousel and a sandpit area.
There are opportunities for interactive music play.
There’s a sandpit with nature play elements such as logs and boulders.
Things to consider
❤️ There is fencing along the road side of the play space and other parts are adjacent to the oval and the tennis courts. However the play area isn’t fully fenced.
❤️ There is bark on the surface of the play area so you may want to keep a close eye on your little person if they are keen to put anything and everything in their mouth.
❤️ When we visited there were no shade sails over the equipment – we are unsure if these are in the pipeline – if not then you may want to BYO sunscreen and hats in the sunnier months.
