Each year on the first Sunday in September we celebrate Father’s Day. We decided to ask a group of Dads to tell us how they would like to spend Father’s Day this year, or more to the point, how they WILL be spending the day! Some are working, like Mark and John, some will relax with family and friends and some, like Darren, will be away from their children due to their job commitments. We wish every Dad a Happy Father’s Day, perhaps a sneaky sleep in and some really cool new jocks and socks!
If you’re still looking for ideas on how to spend the day you’ll find plenty of inspiration in our Adelaide Guide to Father’s Day here.
Matt Slade
Secondary School Teacher / Australian Rules Football Coach
Dad to: Luca (11), Naite (9), Evie (6) & Daisy (5 months)
With 4 kids in the family any form of relaxing would be ideal, however, we will be supporting the Women’s Div 1 SAWFL Grand Final and finishing the day with some great food and wine around a family bonfire.
Mark Soderstrom
Sports Presenter 7 News and radio host of Jodie & Soda on Mix 102.3
Dad to: Felix (4), Sienna (2) & Otis (11 months)
I’d love to sleep in, but unfortunately there’s no chance I’ll have the luxury of that. All 3 of the little ones will be jumping on me in bed when they wake up. Then a quick visit to the park before having to head off to work on the broadcast of the Slowdown charity football match at Norwood Oval. Hopefully I can have dinner without being pelted by vegetables (the kids not embracing the 5 veg and 2 fruit message at the moment!)
Adrian Kemp
The Goolwa Boating Experience Owner/Operator
Dad to: Reece (16) & Drew (13)
I enjoy any time at a skate park watching the not-so-little grommets! But mostly I’m hoping that Reece gets through another learner’s day without crashing the car. LOL!
Nich Marks
Anaesthetist
Dad to: George (10), Harry (8), Benji (6) & Sadie (2)
A relaxed morning, nice brekkie. Trip to the park to kick a ball and then home for a kip. A family dinner and a board game or movie in the afternoon/evening.
Craig Slator
Greedy Gecko Eco Pest Management Owner/Operator
Dad to: Charli (6) & Max (4)
I would love to have a family BBQ lunch down at the beach, finishing off with a game of cricket. Gold!
Darren Lehmann
Head Coach – Australian Cricket Team
Dad to: Jake (25), Tori (22), Amy (15) & Ethan (15)
I would love to be spending it with all the kids over a nice long lunch, talking and catching up on all of their goss, anywhere in Adelaide such as a park or at a nice quaint hotel. The reality is that I’ll be in Bangladesh so will sadly be away for Father’s Day, so it will be a phone call – that will have to do.
Peter McIntyre
National Sales Manager
Dad to: Caitlin (14) & Jacob (9)
A day relaxing at home is always high on the agenda, but if the weather’s fine we will probably head out on our bikes to a local cafe for breakfast or brunch, depending on how long I’m allowed to sleep in!
John Kernahan
Chief Executive Officer
Dad to: Charlotte (10), Joe (8) & Ruby (7)
I’d love to spend it at home, but I’ll be working, but fortunately the kids can come with me and they enjoy it anyway. It’s not an orthodox Father’s Day, but there’s nothing orthodox about our household anyway!
Raj Singh
Cricket Commentator / Accountant
Dad to: Maya (10), Sachin (8) & Asha (6)
Spend some time playing ten pin bowling and putt putt with the family, followed by home made burgers.
