Brickman Awesome | Review
Lego fanatics and lego lovers (because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love lego!) will be impressed by the amazing display of skill, workmanship and design in this exhibition of over 30 different constructions.
Each Lego creation has a brief accompanying explanation which tells who designed and made it, how many bricks were used and how it’s construction was attempted and completed. These explanations are very personal which gives the impression that each piece has been created with love and a lot of time and effort.
When you first walk into the exhibition, there is a Japanese bullet train on display, complete with rounded nose and lego figurines inside enjoying their ride on the train. The detail and construction are rather impressive.
However, as you walk from one room into the next, each construction becomes progressively more complicated and more impressive. The numbers around the amount of lego pieces used, time to create each construction and the weight of the constructions are simply staggering! There were over 400,000 pieces in the NASA Space Launch Rocket which weighs 750kg and took 635 hours to build (according to 9 year old who recalled this info with excitement). This is the largest construction in the whole exhibition and was simply amazing. You can even listen to a NASA launch countdown and watch as the thrusters light up.
Other highlights include the life-size Harley Davidson bike, the life-size car, Dr Who Tardis and Back to the Future DeLorean. There is also a Caterpillar Loader Truck, Eiffel Tower, Windsor Castle, Ferris Wheel, Ship, Plane, animals and a lot more.
Although (obviously) the displays cannot be touched, there are great places for kids to sit around the displays, to be inspired and build their own creations with the lego pieces provided.
There is also the opportunity to contribute to building the world’s longest lego snake. There are small lego boards and lego pieces provided for visitors to create their own picture or add their name to the snake. See our logo below. Nailed it! (well….not quite ha ha). I did borrow someone else’s beautifully made love heart. Thank you!
Many of the larger pieces contain small Lego people and interesting mechanical lego pieces. There is a high level of detail in many of the ships, boats, planes and buildings and you can easily spend 90 minutes wandering around looking at all these fine details and pondering the construction.
It’s good to see someone has a sense of humour (see above pic).
As part of the exibition, there is also a competition for kids to spot the correct amount of Mr & Mrs Awesome’s (lego figurines with rainbow tops on) in and around the displays which the kids really loved doing. Simply enter online at the end of the exhibition. Details available at the entrance to the exhibition.
Don’t be surprised if your kids go home and head straight for their own Lego and start making clever creations.
This is an absolutely fantastic exhibition which kids of all ages and adults will enjoy.
