Browns Barossa Donuts are worth the hype and well worth the drive!

Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

Tucked away in the town of Tanunda on the main strip in a shiny new store sits Browns Barossa Donuts. This is a dedicated donut shop that serves award winning donuts, a small selection of cookies and barista made coffee.

Browns Barossa donuts has built a strong name for itself and a solid reputation for quality donuts. They were awarded the title of South Australia’s best donut by Jodie and Hayesy from Nova 91.9 as decided by the public. Not only that, in 2023 Delicious crowned Browns Barossa Donuts as being the best donut in the state.

These accolades plus the huge social media buzz and word or mouth surrounding these sweet treats meant we had to check it out for ourselves.  As we pulled up into the main street we asked a local for directions and not only did they show us the way, they also echoed the sentiments that they were well worth a visit. With so much positive praise our expectations walking in were quite high.

Stepping inside the donut shop the space is white, bright and paired back. Next to the glass cabinet is a fun little wheel of indecision that the kids got a kick out of playing with. In the glass cabinet there is a selection of popular flavours including their most popular vanilla custard and other notable ones such as Nutella, pistachio papi plus many more! They also offer specialty flavours so its always fun to keep an eye out for these. We visited before Christmas so some of the flavours included Cherry Christmas, Eggnog Custard with Gingerbread man, Toblerone & Baileys Cheesecake and European Spiced Christmas Cookies and Cream.

Even though the Christmas flavours were tempting, the kids settled on the classic vanilla custard and we took a small selection home for the drive. They were fresh, flavourful and incredibly delicious and easily won over the kids, who have no problem giving their honest feedback. They also offer a specialty coffee blend by local roaster Bean Addiction.

All in all, we have to say visiting Browns Barossa Donuts was a fun addition to our Barossa valley day trip. Not only were the staff incredibly warm and helpful, the donut were top quality and much enjoyed by our entire family. So if you find yourself in the Barossa make sure you taste these award winning donuts for yourself.
