The Butterfly Effect Parent Seminar presented by Enlighten Education
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College in partnership with the Parents & Friends Committee is hosting Dannielle Miller from Enlighten Education to hold a Parent Seminar, The Butterfly Effect. Miller is a bestselling author and experienced educator committed to empowering girls to reach their full potential. The Butterfly Effect offers practical, intuitive and powerful strategies using humour to disarm and open up new ways of looking at self-esteem, resilience, body image, friendship, consumerism, navigating the online world, overcoming girls’ fear of failure and finding positive role models.
About Dannielle Miller
Dannielle Miller has just been confirmed as one of the 4 Finalists in the NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year Awards. Dannielle Miller is the co-founder and CEO of Enlighten Education, Australia’s leading provider of in-school workshops for teen girls on body image, self-esteem and empowerment. Since 2007, Enlighten has worked with more than 200,000 girls across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Starting her career as a high school teacher, Dannielle moved on to developing innovative programs for students at risk of dropping out of school. She created the Lighthouse Project, which pairs at-risk students with workplace mentors to help them develop employment skills. Dannielle also developed a Higher School Certificate course which nurtures students’ entrepreneurial skills while involving them in meaningful community volunteer work.
Dannielle is the author of five books. She also devotes her time to The Sanctuary: The Hills Domestic Violence Service & Shelter and The Mirabel Foundation. She says, ‘Culturally we just don’t give teenage girls enough credit. They can absolutely be change-makers. It’s been my life mission to teach them how to think – not what to think – and to give them the tools they need to critique a culture which often doesn’t seem to like them very much’.
About Enlighten Education
Wherever they look, teenage girls are bombarded by messages about what to eat, how to act, how to look, how to please someone and how to be liked. Popular culture, TV programs, magazines, movies and websites dispense information and so-called “advice” to girls at a critical time in their development, when they are still in the process of forming their own attitudes.
Enlighten workshops cover everything from helping girls discover their own inner beauty and understanding what they see in media often isn’t real; to managing friendships and conflicts. Discovering the benefits of positiveness and gratitude to setting safe personal boundaries. Learning how to manage stress to developing business plans.
Enlighten encourages girls to reach their own conclusions and to know their own minds. Rather than telling girls what to do, they focus on informing, inspiring and empowering them. They encourage girls to be discerning consumers, critical thinkers and to find their own voice and power in a complex world
