Did You Know? | Hand Illustrated Children’s Book by Jessica Bennett

Did You Know? Children’s Book by Jessica Bennett

Created by Adelaide based Australian author Jessica Bennett, Did You Know? features rhyming stories which encourage children to use their imagination and see the magic in nature.

Jessica started writing this book for her niece, Eva, in 2015 when she was 5 years old. She was going through a hard time in her life when she felt lost and alone, living on the opposite side of the world, north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden and felt disconnected from family and friends.

Jessica came home to visit Adelaide for just a few weeks and spent one afternoon with her niece at the beach, who saw wonder in the world around her and helped Jessica to see a magical world through her eyes. She did this with one simple question…

Did you know the sand is alive?

On her flight back to Sweden Jessica wrote a poem for Eva titled ‘Did you know that the sand is alive?’. She wanted to send her the sand poem to say thank you, but she couldn’t stop there. More poems came spilling out of her and a book was born.

I hope the stories can help children and adults see the magic in nature, and see the magic of their own imagination. For it is not what we see, but how we see, that matters most.

The story starts on the front cover illustration of our solar system, with the sun at the centre and a little girl (her niece Eva) standing on planet earth. Follow the squiggly line as you open the book and find that, like a magnifying glass, you are getting a closer look at earth…Australia…South Australia…Adelaide…

This is where the journey begins, with different stories all starting with – Did you know?

Kickstarter Campaign

This is an independent production as Jessica has decided to self publish and therefore she created her own publishing name – Puddha Prints.  With a deep respect for the natural environment and the need to live harmoniously with nature to ensure our children and grandchildren have a sustainable future, she believes the small things do matter and would like to play her part towards promoting sustainability.  The book will be printed through a local Adelaide based printer who has a strong environmental focus.

There are minimum quantities required to do a print run and unfortunately Jessica doesn’t have the funds to pay for this upfront herself.  The production and printing costs are a bit higher because she is not going through a publisher and wants her book to be environmentally sustainable. For the first print run she needs to raise $15,000.

Funds raised through her Kickstarter campaign will go toward printing, shipping and expenses for the initial production of the book. The Kickstarter campaign will run for one month closing on 10 October 2021.

If you would like to help you are only charged the amount you pledge at THE END of the Kickstarter campaign if the $15,000 GOAL amount is reached. If the goal is not reached, you are not charged…so there is no risk to you.
