Eis Haus | The German Ice Cream Cafe | Hahndorf | Review
Your kids will go crazy for this German gem of a dessert café in Hahndorf, Eis Haus!
Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji
With the warm weather upon us, there are even more reasons to treat yourself and your family to an iced dessert. Located on the main street of Hahndorf sits Eis Haus and Gluhwein, a combined German ice cream café and German Christmas wine bar.

Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement and a picturesque town in the Adelaide hills. Both of these elements make it the perfect location for a German ice cream shop. Specialising in German style sundaes and spaghetti ice cream, Eis Haus has a lot to offer patrons.

We called past on a Friday morning and the dessert menu was so extensive, it was hard to choose! After much deliberation my children decided on the spaghetti schoko (a chocolate vanilla spaghetti sundae) and the schneeman (a classic snowman sundae). They also have enticing heart waffles (herzwaffel) that you can add onto any spaghetti for an additional cost, but we declined in a bid to reduce the post sugar crash.

Both of these options were a winner with the kids in appearance and taste. My four-year-old was apprehensive about the idea of spaghetti ice cream but absolutely hoovered it down. We were also able to go behind the counter and watch it being made and assembled which added to the excitement. The snowman was not only delicious but the way it was presented made it even more appealing to the kids.

Seating is available both inside and out and the space is filled with natural light, neutral colours and timber tables. Another big plus for this restaurant is how well it caters to diners with dietary requirements. They have gluten free, dairy free and plant based ice cream options and even their waffles can be made gluten free and dairy free on request.
With an extensive menu, high quality dessert offerings and warm, welcoming service, Eis Haus is well worth a visit!

What we liked:
- Delicious German style sweet treats in a German style town, not only is it on theme, it is a place the whole family will love.
Things to consider:
- They can accommodate dietary requirements you just need to let the staff know before ordering.
- There is also wheelchair access to the cafe and an accessible bathroom on site.
- Baby change facilities are also available.
Location:
47 Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf
