FAST X Movie Review – Is it OK for kids?

The 10th edition of the Fast & Furious franchise arrived in cinemas on 18 May 2023. Without giving away spoilers, here are our thoughts:

Fast-ten your seatbelts, and park your view of gravity and common sense aside, this is a non-stop thrill ride. It’s totally crazy – outrageous stunts, a flamboyant psychopath villain (which Jason Momoa aces), the fight scenes, the amazing cars, hold-onto-your-seat car chases in big cities all over the world, and big explosions, will all satisfy Fast & Furious fans. Save a thought for the henchmen though – there’s never been a movie where so many had to be sacrificed. I don’t even know why they sign up for the job.

As far as whether it’s a movie for kids – it’s rated M and that’s mainly for all the violence, so it’s definitely for older kids. The teen boys who saw it last night loved it.

There’s no bad swearing (these streetcar racers and even the pyscho villain surprisingly don’t have potty mouths), no nudity, only one scene with girating scantily clad girls, but lots of guns and fight scenes. It’s not bloody or gory but there are a lot of gruelling fights, deadly weapons used and a whole lot of injuries and killing – tourists seem to manage to just avoid being hit however.

There’s also rumours that what was said to be a two part finale will actually be a trilogy instead. Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez hinted in an interview that there’s “three acts in any story.”

As one of the characters describe, it’s “like a cult with cars”. It’s everything you expect from a Fast & Furious movie and it’s bound to be a huge blockbuster this year. It’s never mattered what the critics say, or that it doesn’t make any sense at all, and is super cheesy – this will be a box office hit regardless. Go see it for the fast cars, the scenic tour around the world, and the insane stunts.

Tip – there is one post credit scene (don’t Google this as there are spoilers around) but no second one – so there’s no need to stay til the very end after all the credits.
