Forktree Brewing – Carrickalinga

935 Forktree Road, Carrickalinga

A real gem in the Fleurieu Peninsula, full of country hospitality, good food, family friendly vibes, and the most amazing views across the hills and sea.

Forktree Brewing is a must visit for a meal if you are in or near Carrickalinga or Normanville. In fact, at just over an hour drive from Adelaide to Carrickalinga, it’s also an easy day trip. The converted large shearing shed allows for dining inside, and outside on the spacious verandah or tables below. No matter where you sit you can take advantage of the magnificent views from its hilltop location.

If you have little ones, and the weather is nice, you can grab a table outside near the sand pit, grassy area and little playground.

Inside, huge windows take advantage of the views. There’s no need for landscape paintings on the wall when you have this live scenery here.

The rustic charm of vintage tools and open overhead timber beams is a nod to the origins of the shearing shed.

Forktree Brewing is a family run business with a friendly country vibe, and you won’t be disappointed with the pub-style food. From burgers, to sliders, lamb shanks, ribs, seafood and even laksa, we were all satisfied.

The size of the meals are pretty much all one size – LARGE. These sliders below could feed a family.

The Lamb Shanks were seriously the biggest serve I’ve ever seen. There were two of them on the plate and for gravy lovers, you will be thrilled with their overly generous offer, filling the bowl with saucy goodness.

The slow cooked Pork Ribs were sticky and delicious, served with a large baked potato and coleslaw.

When the dishes came to our table and we commented on how huge the servings were, we were promptly told that:

”We don’t do small here”.

The Seafood Basket below was crispy and fresh.

I was concerned when one of my friends ordered the Seafood Laksa – it can be a risky decision at a pub, but one mouthful and she was so glad of her choice. It was fresh and full of flavour.

The Forktree microbrewery serves its own beers:

  • Seabreeze Session Ale (a light bodied session ale with a hint of citrus)
  • Sunrise Pale Ale ( a citrus and tropical fruit hop aroma, light to medium body with a crisp finish)
  • Sunset Red Ale (full bodied, malt driven with a beautiful dark red colour)
  • Eclipse Porter Ale (roasted and chocolate flavours from the malt)

If you can’t decide which beer to try, you can get a paddle of beers for $20.

There are other craft beers and South Australian ciders on the menu.  You’ll find an excellent range of South Australian wines too. Milkshakes, Iced Coffee/Chocolate and of course coffee, are also great options.

Kids Menu

The Kids Menu was simple: Chicken Nuggets, Fish or Cheeseburger – all served with chips or salad for $10 each (as of January 2020).

The sandpit outside is well equipped with toys to keep little ones happy and is under the shade of a tree.

Across the grassy area, a timber swing set has a lookout, climbing wall and net, rings and a swing which little ones will enjoy Just be aware though that the play area is not fully fenced from the car park.

The views are breathtaking all over the Fleurieu Peninsula and here at Forktree Brewing it’s a picture perfect setting with rolling hills and the sea beyond. There is no chance of going home hungry – the meals here are HUGE and satisfying. This is a favourite we will return to.
