The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market is celebrating 20 years of supporting South Australian farmers and producers.

Go along to the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market on the Sunday of the October long weekend and help them celebrate their 20th birthday.

The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market is turning 20, and they’re celebrating with a huge birthday market.  First held on 1 October 2006, the Market has spent two decades bringing South Australian farmers and food producers together with the community. Now it’s time to celebrate the farmers, stallholders, members, shoppers, volunteers and families who have been part of their story.

LIVE FIVEAA RADIO

FIVEAA presenters Michael Keelan and Angie McBride, who are regular Sunday morning supporters of the Market, will broadcast their breakfast program live from the Adelaide Showground from 6am to 10am.

FREE SHOWS

The Amazing Drumming Monkeys are joining the fun with two 30 minute shows at 9.30am and 10.30am, while The Ukes will be back under the Red Umbrellas, The Core Four inside the Stirling Angas Pavilion and Adam busking live on acoustic guitar.

KIDS ACTIVITIES

Families can look out for the CFS fire engine, a huge inflatable, birthday cupcake decorating with Joys and Sparkles Face Painting for a small fee.

Kids can get up close to a CFS fire truck along with Smokey and the CFS crew to learn a little about what our firefighters do. They may even get the chance to have a go at squirting the fire hose.  The crew will have information available to help you make a plan for your family, home and pets, as well as advice for anyone travelling through bushfire risk areas over the summer holidays.

Make your way around the Market’s 20th Birthday Trail and discover special birthday offers, tastings and Market deals from participating stallholders.

The regular Sunday community activities will be part of the celebrations too, with Community Yoga and the Community Connect BBQ hosted by Adelaide Central Rotary.

And of course, at the heart of the morning will be what Sundays at the Market have always been about: shopping direct from South Australian farmers and producers, enjoying breakfast and coffee, and meeting the people behind your food.

ASFM History

Since opening in 2006, the market has grown from humble beginnings into a vital community hub that now supports over 115 farmers and producers, connecting them directly with customers in Adelaide every Sunday morning.

From its original location outdoors at the Adelaide Showground, ASFM has expanded and evolved in response to growing demand. After initially operating in the Beef Cattle Pavilion, the market made a significant move to the Stirling Angas Pavilion and Kingsway Boulevard in 2020, providing more space for stallholders, visitors, and activities. This new location has allowed ASFM to welcome more visitors while enhancing the market experience. Since the relocation, the market has seen a significant increase in visitors, membership, and the number of participating stallholders.

All products are locally sourced from South Australian producers. In the early days, the market started with 71 stallholders and just over 2,700 weekly visitors. Today, it hosts an average of 100 stallholders each week, with numbers swelling to over 5,500 visitors on busy Sundays. The growth reflects the community’s ongoing commitment to buying local and supporting sustainable farming practices.

The market’s success is not just about numbers; it’s about the connections it fosters. By supporting small family farms, sustainable practices, and providing a platform for local artisans, ASFM has become a cornerstone of the South Australian community. The market’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its stalls, with partnerships with organisations like OzHarvest and Puddle Jumpers ensuring that any surplus produce is given to those in need.

The market is free to enter, so take the family along, walk, ride, drive or catch public transport and enjoy their authentic farmers’ market atmosphere. Paid parking is available onsite or free parking is available via Rose Terrace, Wayville.
