Green Valley Strawberries Cafe

Green Valley Strawberries Cafe Review | Nairne, Adelaide Hills

Green Valley Strawberries is a family-owned strawberry farm in the Adelaide Hills. The owners, Jim and Lynda and daughters Danielle, Christie and Stephanie Rozaklis, have been growing, picking, packing and marketing fresh, farm grown strawberries since 1985.

You can buy freshly picked and packed strawberries at a great price. Check out the ones we bought on the weekend below (no filter was needed). It was only $10 for three large 500g punnets of premium strawberries.  {Prices as of October 2019}

Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch or Snack

During the strawberry season from October through to May, the Green Valley Strawberries cafe is open for visitors to enjoy coffee and cake, a snack, breakfast or lunch. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the season opening!

Firstly though, how gorgeous is the scenery across from the cafe, that hits you as soon as you get there.

From their menu a message from the two sisters Christie and Steph who run the cafe:

Two sisters on a mission to share their passion for simple delicious homemade food and the finest quality coffee in the Adelaide Hills. Your support is helping us turn our vision into reality by keeping small businesses and local farmers alive.

They proudly source their produce and ingredients from local suppliers and Australian businesses. For example they currently use Tweedvale milk (from Lobethal), Murphy’s Crossing free range eggs (from Willaston) and Golden North ice cream (from Laura). All their cakes, menu items and jam are made in-house.

As you can see below, there’s a great choice of home-made cakes and sweets. It was so hard to choose!

For something savoury I had the delicious Smoked Salmon Bagel with avacado.

Their delicious fresh strawberries of course feature throughout the menu. Below is the Waffle with strawberries and Golden North ice cream.

The scones feature their home-made strawberry jam as well.

Their thickshakes are also delicious – made the old fashioned way with real South Australian ice cream. Miss 14 gave the chocolate thickshake a big thumbs up.

The cafe is family friendly with high chairs available. There is a little kids play area alongside one section of the outdoor dining, with chalk for drawing on the ground, a great kitchen set and toys for little ones.

Say Hello to the chooks out the front (they are very friendly), where there is plenty of grassy area for the kids to have a little bit of a run around. It is fenced off from the road here, but is adjacent the car park.

The cafe has expanded over the years. Seating is either in this sheltered area below or along the front of the building, which is also shaded. Neither area is fully enclosed so be prepared for the weather and bring a jacket if it’s chilly. There is no seating inside.

Make sure you buy some freshly picked strawberries. They are a bargain. As mentioned above, we bought these three large 500g punnets (pictured below) for only $10 for the lot, and they were absolutely delicious – so sweet and crisp. Much cheaper than you’ll get at the supermarket and so much fresher. You can also get a whole tray of the seconds strawberries in punnets (which actually looked totally fine) for $15. {Pricing as of October 2019}.

Green Valley Strawberries

Green Valley Strawberries is located at 686 Nairne Road, Hay Valley (just outside the town of Nairne) {map}

It’s just under 40km from the start of the Freeway, which is around 3o minutes drive, and is just near Mt Barker.

Opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday – 8.30am to 4pm (kitchen closes at 3pm). It’s open during strawberry season only from October to May.

If you love strawberries then it’s worth the easy drive up into the Adelaide Hills for a visit to Green Valley farm to buy some fresh fruit and enjoy a light meal, coffee or snack. You’ll be supporting a South Australian farm, and in turn supporting many local producers as well who supply fresh goods for the cafe.

Green Valley do not offer a ‘pick your own strawberries’ experience. If you would like to ‘pick your own’ strawberries, then stop by Beerenberg Farm in Hahndorf.
