Half-price flights for interstate travel in Australia
As part of a $1.2 billion dollar tourism package, the Federal Government will make around 800,000 airline tickets available to Australians at half-price. The incentive is designed to encourage Australians to travel interstate for holidays.
Thirteen destinations around Australia have been included as part of the package, including Kangaroo Island, the Whitsundays, Cairns, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Alice Springs, Broome, Tasmania and Victoria. It is possible that more locations will be added to the scheme as it progresses.
For Australians concerned about the ongoing threat of border closure, it is hoped that the rollout of the COVID vaccine will mean that border closures will only be imposed as a last resort.
Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar and regional airlines are expected to announce travel destinations in the coming weeks. Tickets will be available to purchase on airline websites from 1 April 2021 for travel from 1 May 2021 to the end of September 2021.
