Heritage on Sunday at the Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum

Managed and maintained by theTea Tree Gully Branch of the National Trust of South Australia, the Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum holds public openings on the third Sunday of the month.

The Highercombe Hotel, a prominent landmark in the historic township of Tea Tree Gully, was opened in 1854.  The building has served as a hotel, a community meeting room, a post office, a school room, and residence for postal officers, teachers and a private family.  Now the centrepiece of a museum known previously as the Old Highercombe Hotel Museum, in 2015 the name was changed to Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum.

During their open events The Museum will be adhering to SA Health Covid guidelines. Please understand some restrictions will be in place.

Once Upon A Time – Stories of South Australian Childhood

This exhibition, on loan from the History Trust of SA, offers a glimpse into the lives of children living in South Australia over successive generations, in both happy and more challenging times. A slide-show compliments this exhibition. 

Explore four display pavilions: blacksmith, police cell, laundry and the charming garden. Sausage sizzle and Devonshire Tea is available and the gift shop will be stocked with unique craft.

All About Aprons

There will be over 50 aprons to view, some vintage and others donated for this one-off unique display as well as the 12 rooms and four display pavilions to explore.

There are children’s activities in the display pavilions which are all to do with the history of farming in the TTG district. Also children enjoy discovering the garden and visiting the working Blacksmith and the original TTG Lockup. Sausage sizzle and Devonshire Tea will be on sale.

Colours of Christmas

Have a leisurely browse through 10 rooms of the heritage building filled with gorgeous traditional Christmas decorations.

The Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum will be celebrating the Christmas season with their final opening for the year of 2021. The museum will be open from Wednesday 17 – Saturday 20 November, from 10am – 2pm daily and Sunday 21 November from 11am – 4pm. Take along your family or catch up with friends and enjoy a cuppa and some tasty treats and perhaps purchase some beautiful handmade gifts from the shop.

The museum is also surrounded by a beautiful garden setting which you can take the time to wander and explore. 

There will be a sausage sizzle on the Sunday.
