Illyarrie Reserve Playground | Surrey Downs | Review

Illyarrie Reserve Playground in Surrey Downs features a toddler pirate ship, fantastic climbing net and a big flying fox.
Review by Claire Davill
Tucked away in a huge park in Surrey Downs is a lovely little playground with equipment for toddlers and bigger kids.
The toddler equipment includes a cute pirate ship with slide, ship wheel, portholes, noughts and crosses and two climbing nets. There’s also two toddler swings nearby.

The bigger play equipment includes two slides, a tube slide, and a climbing net and climbing wall. There’s another noughts and crosses board here and a connect four board. There’s also a seesaw nearby.

There is a fantastic climbing frame with lots of options for going through, under and around.

Next to the climbing frame is a cute springy car. There’s also a basket swing and two regular swings nearby.

The flying fox is great for both little kids and bigger kids. It’s not too fast, and there’s a handy platform at one end to help smaller children hop up on the seat.

There’s also a table tennis table here, you will need to bring your own paddles and balls.

There is a small toilet block right next to the playground, a basketball hoop not too far away, and large areas of lawn surrounding the playground. There’s also a small picnic shelter with a barbeque.

Things to Consider:
- The playground is not fenced, but it is a long way from the busier surrounding roads because the park is so large.
- There is plenty of natural shade in the playground area, but no shade sails.
- There is lots of off-street parking accessible from Illyarrie Avenue, between the Baseball Club and the Surrey Downs Community Centre. Follow the drive up the hill to the secondary parking area for the closest park to the playground.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:
- Fairview Green shopping centre is nearby on Hancock Road, and has cafes and takeaway options.
- Surrey Downs shopping centre is nearby on the corner of Golden Grove Road and Grenfell Road, and has cafes and restaurants.
Location:
Illyarrie Avenue, Surrey Downs. Access is also available from Tilley Drive.
