Incredibles 2 Movie Review

Incredibles 2 Movie Review

Fans have waited a long time for the sequel to the 2004 Incredibles movie and will not be disappointed by this fun, action-packed movie which is absolutely fantastic.

The storyline picks up from where the first Incredibles movie ended and within minutes we see the Parr family united, using their amazing superpowers to stop an unwanted villain from crushing their city. Unfortunately, things go badly, the Parr’s are arrested and “Supers” (superheroes) are finished once and for all. That is until the Parrs receive a visit from Frozone who encourages them to become involved in a new program to change the public perception about superheroes and make them legal.

Elastagirl becomes the new “face” of Supers everywhere as she fights a new supervillain trying to discredit superheroes while Mr Incredible battles it out on the homefront with predictably hilarious results. Mums and dads will be able to relate to scenes which show Mr Incredible struggling to manage a baby that won’t sleep, Dash’s maths homework and an upset teenager.

Parents need to be aware that there are a lot of violence and quite intense scenes in this movie. On several occasions Mr Incredible appears to be half-crushed by heavy machinery, the opening scene features a giant bore drilling through the earth threatening people’s lives; and in another scene Elastagirl is visibly tasered and in distress. There is also a scene involving a gun being pointed at a character. There are also scenes featuring characters kicking, punching and throwing each other. The violence makes the movie quite tense at times and although we expect the happy Hollywood ending, I suspect that younger kids might become overwhelmed by the level of violence in the movie.

The movie has some interesting themes running throughout which only adults might appreciate. These can be noted in characters’ statements such as “those in power don’t always like good people who do right”. There are also themes of deception and betrayal among others which help create interesting subplots. I could certainly watch this movie again and not be bored.

Fans will also be pleased to know that fashion designer extraordinaire Edna Mode makes an appearance with some memorable scenes and dialogue that will not disappoint.

I think this is going to be a great movie for older kids and there’s certainly a lot in the movie that adults will relate to and be able to laugh at.

Incredibles 2 is in cinemas 14 June 2018.
