Ballaboosta | Middle Eastern & Mediterranean “traditional soul food made with love” | Review

Ballaboosta Middle Eastern Mediterranean

Ballaboosta opened its doors in 2015 and has been getting rave reviews ever since for its delicious Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food.

Set on a quiet stretch of Halifax Street filled with quaint cottages and pretty nature strips, Ballaboosta has become one of our favourite spots for lunch.

We like to go there after a walk/bike ride/scooter around Victoria Park but there is also street parking available on Halifax Street.

Balaboosta: n. A Yiddish term meaning the perfect housewife, homemaker, wonderful mother, cook & gracious hostess. She does it all and she does it well!

Review of Ballaboosta

Ballaboosta offers “traditional soul food, made with love” by their very own Ballaboosta: the owner’s mother Betty who is the inspiration for the cafe.

Their menu is extensive and ideal for sharing. You’ll find flatbreads, street mezze, salads, delectable wood-fired pizzas, desserts and homemade biscuits. They also make a good coffee, and they have a brekky menu.

Last time we went we enjoyed their wild zaatar & chicken wrap and a melanzane pizza which comes topped with artichokes, eggplant, capsicum, olives and goat’s curd. We are also big fans of their fattoush salad and their baklava which is light and delicious.

Review of Ballaboosta

My children always enjoy watching the pizzas and pita breads being prepared in the kitchen, and then eating the finished product when it arrives fresh and hot at the table. They also love poring over the sweet treats in the cabinet.

The service is warm and inobtrusive, and the food is fresh, interesting and fabulous. Ballaboosta offers cosy indoor and outdoor seating options and has highchairs for little diners.

We give Ballaboosta the double thumbs up.

About Susannah: I’m a mum to three boys and a little girl and I am learning to embrace the chaos. I love my morning coffee, exercise, cranking up some good tunes on the stereo, and heading away to new places on holiday. Originally from New Zealand, I now call Adelaide home and I love getting out and about and exploring all the fabulous things for families to do in Adelaide.
