Flower Crown Party | A Perfect Tween or Teen Birthday Party Idea
When thinking of party ideas for my daughter’s 13th Birthday celebration, we looked for something that was age appropriate, still sweet, but not too cutesy, fun and interactive, that a group of tweens would enjoy. A Bloom Flower Crowns party ticked all the boxes for us. We had made flower crowns once before at a festival and remembered how gorgeous they were. They are fun to make, and so pretty to wear, plus offer 12 to 13 year old girls the perfect opportunity to take plenty of beautiful photos of themselves… something that they just love to do at this age!
The flower crown party was held inside a beautiful bell tent, also supplied and completely set up by Belinda from Bloom Flower Crowns. This was an optional extra which we personally loved. It included the gorgeous rugs, cushions and decorations with so many little details – it looked so lovely. We held the party at the Norwood Outdoor Swimming Centre – this gave us plenty of room for the bell tent (it needs about 6 metres diameter) and meant the girls could go for a swim (which was fab as it was a hot day). There is plenty of shade there and by late afternoon much of the pool is also shaded by the tall trees, which means you don’t have to worry about getting sunburnt. The other bonus of having the party at a swimming centre is that you have lifeguards there to watch over the kids when swimming, which gives you peace of mind. It made the party super easy as I didn’t need to supervise them in the pool, and could get things ready for dinner while they swam.
We chose to have fresh flowers for this party but you can also choose to use artificial flowers if you like. The artificial ones will of course last, but we liked the idea of fresh blooms.
All the materials are provided and Belinda is on hand to show everyone how to tie and stick the flowers onto the wire headband. These girls didn’t need a lot of help but if you have younger kids she is happy to help them more or just make them if they want. For those wanting a unicorn party, the unicorn head bands are also super cute.
Belinda happens to be a school teacher so is very patient and good at explaining things – and is totally at ease with looking after a big group of kids.
The girls had a lovely selection of flowers to choose from. Inside the tent they got stuck into creating their beautiful head pieces while chatting away.
We had 18 girls at this party so they did the flower crown making in two groups – that way it wasn’t too squashy and hot inside the bell tent.
There are also tattoos that the girls can put on their faces to complement their flower crowns.
To complement the flower theme, we put a few blooms on the birthday cake. Look out soon for the instructions on how to make this super easy cake (the base is actually a brownie).
Belinda is able to also supply trestle tables with white tablecloths for food and drinks. This was a huge help, especially when we weren’t holding the party at home and already had the food and party things to bring to the venue.
I made a couple of large grazing platters with lots of favourite snacks for nibbling. You can basically throw on anything you think the kids will like. When I say ”throw on” I mean this literally – I was running out of time and guests were arriving so as you can see, things were just chucked onto those platters (one is just a large wooden cutting board) but it adds to the rustic look of the grazing platter style.
I included things like: sushi, chips, watermelon, nectarines, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, pretzels, chocolate covered pretzels, caramel popcorn, tiny teddies, mini Chicken Crimpy, mini Raspberry Frogs, mini Oreos, chocolate waffle rolls, cheese, Jatz and french stick slices. It works really well when you have a large group – there’s something for everybody in amongst the platters.
The Bloom Flower Crown party was a huge hit with these 11 to 13 year old girls. It was so easy to do as Belinda does most of it for you. I only needed to provide the food and cake. I had time during the party to take lots of photos of the guests looking gorgeous with their flower crowns on. The girls enjoyed being in the gorgeous bell tent; happily nibbled on the grazing platters; swam in the pool; had pizza and hot chips for dinner; and then got to pick their own lolly bags to take home from a selection of mixed lollies and little chocolates. It was sweet and fun – and a great way to celebrate being 13.
