Karkoo Garden Centre & Cafe | Stirling | Review
Karkoo Nursery in Stirling has the perfect café for train lovers young and old, located at the historic Mount Lofty Railway Station.
Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji
Tucked away in the leafy suburb of Stirling in the gorgeous Adelaide Hills, Karkoo is part garden centre, part gift shop and part café. As you arrive you’re welcomed by a classic white picket fence that sets the tone for the property’s charming country cottage style. The entrance is lined with seasonal flowers, plants and garden-inspired displays, creating an inviting space to explore before you even step inside.

With eager kids dragging us inside we head into the vibrant onsite café, finding a sweet little stand with colouring in paper and pencils which is a lovely touch. Further inside the café we discover a bright yellow corner upstairs that is surrounded by plants and decked out with train themed memorabilia. Ordering a long black and a babyccino, we then cuddle up with the provided blankets watching out for trains and taking in the action of the garden centre next door. The cafe also offers gourmet sourdough toasties, scones with jam and cream and a selection of sweet treats on the counter.

After some unsuccessful train spotting we decide to check out the gift shop which has some pretty tempting squishie toys for our girls. They also have some lovely items for the home and thoughtful gifts, so we make a mental note to make a stop next time we are seeking out something for a hard to buy for friend.

Next we set our sights on the outside area which offers seating both undercover and right by the railway in prime position to see the trains. Tables are adorned with pretty little plants and blankets are provided for a cosy atmosphere.

On our way outside we sneak a peak inside the garden centre which is brimming with so many goodies. The staff are on hand to help with questions if you are a novice gardener and there are so many beautiful plants that would make beautiful gifts too.

We absolutely loved the setting of Karkoo in Stirling and how the train theme is filtered throughout the centre. We also loved that there are so many cosy places to sit and watch for trains whilst enjoying a warm drink or bite to eat.

What we like about it:
- Lovely setting, so many plants and the train theme is fun
- Located only a few minutes away from Steamroller Park
Things to consider:
- The opening hours are slightly different to the website so it pays to give them a call when planning to visit
- there are no baby change facilities on site but they do have disabled toilets and high chairs
- This site is pram friendly with the exception of the upstairs part inside
- There is a surcharge on Sundays so keep this in mind
Location:
2 Sturt Valley Road, Stirling. Karkoo is positioned in a quiet part of Stirling with a good amount of parking.
