Kensington Gardens Adventure Playground | Opens 28 Oct 2026
Official opening of the NEW Kensington Gardens Adventure Playground
The new playground at Kensington Gardens Reserve will reopen on Wednesday 28 October 2026 and the community is invited to celebrate from 3.30pm to test out all the epic new equipment. The afternoon will also include free face painting for the kids, a barbecue fundraiser hosted by Burnside CFS and an ice cream van.
The new Kensington Gardens Adventure Playground has been inspired by local wildlife and features a custom bird-hide play structure, flying fox, climbing equipment, trampoline, swings, monkey bars and other exciting play opportunities. This will be alongside inclusive features designed to support children of all ages and abilities.
Kensington Wama/Kensington Gardens Reserve is the largest recreational area in the City of Burnside and is home to a range of sporting clubs, plenty of recreational facilities and includes the Waite, Parkinson and Ford Ovals.
This area includes:
- Nature Play Space & Kaurna Reflection Area – Kensington Wama Playground (located near South Terrace)
- Wetland & Walking Track
- NEW Kensington Gardens Adventure Playground
The new Kensington Gardens Adventure Playground replaces the previous Burnside Adventure Playground which served the community for more than 20 years and significantly exceeded its expected lifespan. It was time to replace the ageing and deteriorating equipment with a contemporary play space that better reflects current best practice in playground design, accessibility and inclusion.
