Korea Restaurant Goodwood | Review
From cook-your-own BBQ to dramatic desserts, Korea Restaurant offers a family night out with a twist.
Review by Carla Caruso
The popularity of Korean shows and films on streaming platforms (hello, KPop Demon Hunters) has sparked renewed interest in Korean culture – and food.
For an authentic taste of Korea right here in Adelaide – and a family night out with a difference – Korea Restaurant on Goodwood Road is a must-try. An institution since 1991, it has been tantalising diners for decades.
I headed there with my family of four one Friday night, full of excitement. As soon as you enter through the red-painted portico and doors, you know you’re in for a treat.

With its ‘cook your own’ Korean barbecue, you can order à la carte (individual items), or choose a set menu or banquet. We went with a beef platter, which comprised Wagyu, Angus beef, ribs, and ox tongue. Other platter options include pork, seafood, and vegetarian selections.

Alongside the platter, we tried deep-fried twisted potato chips (yum!), vegetable tempura, a side dish combo (kimchi, pickled and spiced cucumbers, and pickled radish), and steamed rice. The crispy cream cheese balls were unfortunately sold out. (For a quicker daytime option, a lunch menu is also available.)

To quench your thirst, drinks include Korean soft drinks like the creamy Milkis, plum juice, and Korean rice tea. Adults may also wish to try the alcoholic Korean soju, available in flavours such as peach, grape, watermelon, and plum. There are also Korean and Japanese beers, as well as wine.

Our kids had fun cooking the meat on the hibachi grill, even trying the beef tongue without complaint. (Note that some parents may prefer not to cook their own food on a night off, and the hot plates aren’t suitable for young children, but our family had a blast!)

For dessert, we had to try the fried ice cream after seeing other diners enjoying it. The sweet treat arrived encased in a glass dome and was unveiled by a waitress in a puff of smoke for theatrical effect, revealing the hot, crispy ice cream inside.

The chocolate hotpot, served with a fruit platter (and Tia Mira for adults), was also a spectacle, whipped up table-side by a waitress.

With K-pop music playing in the background, Korea Restaurant is a lively, family-friendly spot for enjoying Korean BBQ together. Well worth a visit!
