Let's Get Tricker

Let’s Get Trickier – Mike Wilkop

After sellout shows in 2016, local magician Michael Wilkop (aka Mickster the Trickster) returns to the Adelaide Fringe with a family friendly show.

Michael is back trickier & cheekier than ever with his explosive new show “Let’s Get Trickier” at the Speakeasy, Gluttony.

The show offers an hour of elite trickery, mind-blowing, mind reading, fire illusions and comedy. There will be a number of awesome magic techniques and styles that other magic shows at the Fringe don’t dare do, like fire illusions, live animals and levitating objects.

The show is not just magic but includes advanced demonstration of mind real psychological techniques. Over the last year Michael has been studying Neuro Linguistics Programming (NLP) in order to create a more amazing and surreal experience for the audience. Michael uses language patterns and power of suggestion to influence the choices of his spectators. He also gauges people’s thought processes through their body language in order to obtain information from his audience.

Michael is not the only star of the show, there are 3 highly trained Doves – Trooper, Marshmallow, and Knick Knack, each with their own specialised tricks, all of whom are given star treatment, on and off the stage!

Michael’s journey started back in 1996 when the first Adelaide Fringe inspired him show he saw.  From there he gained inspiration to develop his magic skills and become a master in prestidigitation,

“I started Magic because the curiosity got the better of me; the sense of wonder ended up driving me to create magic. I like to create the same sense of wonder for my audience that I felt when I saw my first magic show!”

“Being born and bred in Adelaide has made me come to realise that South Australia is truly the festival state. It is an honour and makes me feel proud to be performing at my home ground for one of the largest and best annual arts festivals in the world. Our state is full of amazing people that pay respect to the performing arts and it is a pleasure to perform in front of them.”

Michael is not just a magician, he is also a trained actor which brings a theatrical sense to the performance. His acting career is about to take off with a starring role in the upcoming South Australian produced film, Psychosis, a Psychological thriller to be released later in 2017.

Over the coming weeks look out for Michael who will be performing random acts of magic, unexpectedly on a city street, in a café, at a train station or other random places around Adelaide. Michael loves people’s reactions:

“they think it’s just a part of a normal everyday happening until the magic appears. Expect to see my outfit change in a split second, a giant straw appear from nowhere, my shoelaces get tied without any hands, a cricket bat levitate and other random objects appear and disappear. It will be random magic in random places all around Adelaide.”

All proceeds from Michael’s first show on 17 February are going to: Headspace and Cancer Council SA.  “These two charities are really important and have both touched me, my friends.”
