Lukoumades – The Greek Donut store in Adelaide

If you’re looking for somewhere to buy dessert after dinner or you just have a sweet tooth to satisfy, you’ll love these scrumptious little Greek donuts.

With two locations in Adelaide – Hyde Park and Henley Beach (Norwood store has closed since this review was published), Lukoumades are always at the top of the list for my kids when they feel like a sweet treat!

You can’t go past the original option of donuts simply served with honey and cinnamon, or some of our favourite toppings include Nutella Dream (Nutella and crushed biscuits – plus we recommend adding strawberries) or Kinder Surprise (melted milk and white chocolate and Kinder pieces).

Lukoumade have taken this classic Greek dessert and creatively reinvented it for everyone to enjoy. Offering both dining and takeaway, they use a traditional recipe with only the highest quality of fresh ingredients and they fry their lukoumades in store to ensure that every order has that delicious authentic taste. Everything is prepared made-to-order so if it’s busy be prepared to wait!

Pictured here is the Norwood store on The Parade (since closed) with a similar fit out to the Henley Beach and Hyde Park venues.  There is seating inside and outside or you can choose to takeaway.  The menu includes much more than their classic donuts too, such as loaded waffles and thickshakes, smoothies, fried halloumi chips, Greek sweets, gelato plus a variety of hot and cold drinks.

A little Lukoumades history:

Lukoumades (pronounced ‘loo-koo-MAH-thess) are considered to be one of the oldest recorded pastries (and desserts, for that matter) in the world – in ancient Greece, these bite-sized, golden brown dough balls were served to the winners of the Greek Olympics.

Lukoumades also have a dessert truck for hire which would be a great novelty for events such as birthdays, christenings or any type of celebration.

Store Locations:

173 King William Road, Hyde Park

249 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach
