Lunar New Year Family Workshops | Adelaide | 17 Feb 2024

Lunar New Year Family Workshops at Her Majesty’s Theatre

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with family-friendly workshops designed for children aged 5 and up.  These workshops are a celebration of creativity and cultural discovery. Begin with the serene artistry of Jingwei Bu’s tea ceremony. Then, let creativity bloom with Datsun Tran’s drawing and calligraphy workshops, and catch the K-pop fever as Dopamin Studio teaches you the trendiest dance moves.

Immerse in the captivating traditions of China and Korea — an ideal complement to your Lunar New Year festivities, before the bustling Gouger Street party.

Pouring Tea Until It Is All Evaporated with Jingwei Bu

In this evocative performance, a stack of A4 paper serves as a makeshift tea table, with each spill of tea creating spontaneous art on the stained paper—echoes of a 2021 performance. The act of pouring, meticulous to avoid spillage, contrasts with the inevitable drips, weaving a tension-filled experience. As the tea leaves its mark, it captures the essence of mindfulness, celebrating the present moment’s quiet power. Bu’s absence leaves an open canvas for the audience’s reflection, turning mindfulness into a shared experience. This performance, drawing from the Zen philosophy of traditional tea ceremonies, distills tranquillity into each pour. It’s an artistic journey where time, motion, and contemplation exist in tranquil balance, inviting the audience to find peace within the transformative art of tea.

  • Tea pouring art performance times (45 minutes) | 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:45pm
  • Tea ceremony and tea-sharing performance times (15 minutes) | 12:15pm, 1:15pm, 2:30pm

Venue: Her Majesty’s Theatre Lobby | Free admission
