Have you ever wondered where those treasures washed up on the beach have come from?
Look no further, the team at the Marine Discovery Centre have loads to share with you about the Great Southern Reef and what makes it so special. Winter is the best time for beachcombing so rug up and join them during the July school holidays.
Dive in for a morning of hands-on fun, marine-based learning, virtual reality experiences, feeding aquarium animals, and finish with a beach marine trail on Henley Beach. During the session, children will have access to a variety of interactive discovery stations including Kaurna learning, aquariums, hands-on marine specimens, microscopes, virtual reality headsets, games, and art activities.
INCLUSIONS:
- Materials for art activities, art can be taken home.
- Aquariums featuring local South Australian marine creatures such as the Big-Bellied Seahorses, Ornate Cowfish, Porcupine Fish, native Oysters, Murray River Turtle, Yabbies and more.
- Virtual Reality Headsets giving you the opportunity to explore under the sea without getting wet. Underwater virtual reality experiences include the Great Southern Reef. Footage captured by Carl Charter, a project made possible thanks to Inspiring South Australia.
- Kaurna Education Room (The Kaurna Meyunna Wodli) is an interactive room that highlights the relationship that Kaurna people have with the Adelaide Plains and the coast.
- Interactive models featuring our sounds of the ocean interactive, beachcombing game plus oceanography, climate change, marine debris, marine habitats, touchscreens, sustainable fishing, stormwater, beachcombing, and get hands-on with their microscopes and Discovery Dive game.
- Henley Beach Marine Trail (if weather permits).
- Each child will receive a free beachcombing sheet to take home.
TIMES:
- 10am – 11.30am – Interactive Centre activities, art and fish feeding demonstration
- 11.30am – 12pm – Guided Beach Marine Trail on Henley Beach (if weather permits)
TICKETS:
- Child with one adult -$15
- Additional adults – $15
- Adults with child under 3 only – $15
Only children require a ticket. One adult can attend free with each paying child. If there are more adults than paying children (e.g. 2 children and 3 adults), please purchase an additional adult ticket. Children under 3 can attend for free when accompanied by a paying child. If you’re attending only with a child under 3, please purchase an adult ticket with child under 3. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian for the duration of the session.
