Mellor Park Playground | Lockleys | Review

Mellor Park Playground in Lockleys has plenty of space to run and climb, and a great flying fox.

Review by Claire Davill

Mellor Park is a large space full of large gum trees, plenty of lawn, a war memorial, and a fantastic playground with plenty of facilities.

The central equipment includes a large climbing net with a crows nest platform, with a nice long tube slide. The slide isn’t too steep, making it great for kids who want to experience a longer slide without feeling like they’re going too fast.

There are several soft-fall hills surrounding the central play equipment for climbing, running and jumping.

There’s also a tightrope course and climbing poles that are quite challenging to traverse, perfect for bigger kids.

The playground also includes a well-designed flying fox, with a platform for launching at one end.

You’ll find some log stepping stones here too.

The playground also includes a set of swings for all ages, including regular swings, toddler swing and basket swing, plus a springy cockatoo seat.

Nearby, there’s another set of equipment suitable for smaller kids. It might be a little too big for toddlers. The equipment includes two slides, fireman’s pole, bridge, stepping stones, a climbing wall and activity board.

The park also features picnic shelters with barbeques, a basketball court, tennis court and toilet block.

There’s also a covered bocce court over near Myzantha Street.

The remaining reserve includes a large area of lawn shaded by large gum trees.

Things to Consider:

  • The playground is not fenced, and the reserve borders the busy Henley Beach Road. The playground is set far back from the road, but you will need to keep an eye on little ones.
  • The playground is only partially shaded by large gum trees.
  • The off-street car park can only be accessed when traveling east on Henley Beach Road. On street parking is available on the much quieter Myzantha Street at the north end of the reserve.

Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:

  • Brunch on Henley is a cafe next to the off-street parking on Henley Beach Road and serves fish and chips, cakes, milkshakes and coffee.

Location:

3 Myzantha Street, Lockleys. Off street parking is available off of Henley Beach Road.
