Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji
First things first, a moss piglet is an eight legged micro animal with a claim to fame for being the world’s most resilient creature. We had never heard of the tiny little dude but were more than happy to come along for the ride.
Stepping inside Space Theatre at the Adelaide Festival Centre, we had no idea what to expect. Not only were we unaware of the magnificence of the moss piglet, we sadly had never experienced a Windmill Production show prior. However, after witnessing this incredible show, we can’t wait to return for more. Within minutes of the bumbling scientists stepping on stage there were smiles, wide eyes and so many giggles across the audience.
The show followed the two scientists on their journey of discovery to see whether the moss piglet could survive in the harshest of conditions from ice, the dry desert, under the sea and even an impromptu trip to the moon. We won’t ruin the story for you, but just know it is captivating, clever and incredibly well done.
We watched the show with a five and a seven-year-old and both girls were entertained from start to finish. Three notable parts were the smoke, the slapstick humour, and the jellyfish scene, which was particularly captivating for our youngest, sea-creature-obsessed daughter.
As an adult, what made this show particularly noteworthy is that it encourages you to look at the world with awe and wonder. Children are great at getting excited by the little things and stopping to witness nature’s glory, but for us adults, we often forget to press pause and take a moment to zoom out. Moss Piglet provides pure escapism that will leave you feeling calm, connected and curious.
So if you are seeking a show that not only entertains but sparks a love of science, art and learning, snap up a ticket to Moss Piglet!
