Mount Lofty Botanic Garden re-opens Friday 15 May 2020
With just over two weeks of May remaining we still have enough time to visit the stunning Mount Lofty Botanic Garden to take in the beautiful late autumn colours.
After seven weeks of closure due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are delighted to hear that Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is re-opening for everyone to enjoy once again.
Visitors will be able to stroll through the garden from tomorrow, Friday 15 May 2020 – just in time to catch the end of the autumn colours. The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden autumn season brings more than 200,000 visitors to the garden each year, so the decision to close the garden was not taken lightly at the time.
Botanic Gardens of SA would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time and are very excited to be welcoming us all back.
They will be undertaking extra cleaning of garden facilities and urge everyone to continue to look after each other by maintaining a 1.5m distance from other people, practicing good hygiene and, if you’re feeling unwell, please stay home.
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a serene place to connect with nature either individually or in small groups, however, as per state government requirements, they remind visitors that groups of more than 10 people are not permitted to gather.
Please note that the free guided walks are not yet operational again, but they encourage you to take advantage of the self-guided walks kindly put together by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide.
Large numbers of visitors are anticiapted in the coming weeks so please note that traffic management will be in place on weekends to redirect visitors when the lower car park is full. It is important to enjoy the great outdoors and share the excitement of the re-opening, but if the car park is full, they advise visitors to move on to an alternative nature spot in the Adelaide Hills. Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is open 365 days a year and it is beautiful all year round, so there will always be other opportunities to visit.
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden opening times:
- Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Weekends and public holidays: 10:00am – 5:00pm
A quick reminder about garden regulations:
Botanic Gardens are different from public parks in that they are living museums, filled with valuable living collections. For this reason, some activities – such as allowing dogs to roam the garden – have the potential to damage or destroy valuable plants.
Botanic Gardens are also internationally regarded as places for visitors to seek peace, beauty and tranquility, so activities that impede this (such as the use of drones) are also discouraged.
Remember you can not:
- Bring dogs or other pets into the garden
- Fly drones in or above the garden (under CASA guidelines. Learn more at our Filming and Photography page)
- Ride bikes / bicycles, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades
- Drive vehicles into the garden
- Damage or remove plants
- Enter garden beds
- Bring alcohol into the garden
- Play ball or throwing games
- Bring BBQs into the garden
