Our beautiful South Australian parks provide countless opportunities for children and families to connect with nature and to experience the health and wellbeing benefits of playing, learning and being physically active through bushwalking, camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming, cycling, surfing and exploring.
Nature Play SA’s Park of the Month will showcase a different park each month and encourage children and families to experience a range of landscapes, flora and fauna while taking part in fun nature based activities.
February’s Park of the Month is South Australia’s most visited park – Granite Island Recreation Park!
Crossing the long wooden causeway from Victor Harbor to Granite Island by walking or by horse-drawn tram is a rite of passage for South Australians – more than 700,000 visitors a year make it our most visited park!
Granite Island is famous for its huge granite boulders tinged with orange lichen. It is also the home of a colony of little penguins. There are lots of activities for kids on and around Granite Island including following the ‘Kaiki Walk’ trail to learn more about the area’s history whilst seeing spectacular coastal scenery, huge granite boulders and listening to the sound of waves crashing against rocky shores.
