Family-Friendly Winery Bremerton Launches Tasting Room and Outdoor Area in Langhorne Creek, South Australia
Feel like you’re on the set of the ABC’s Aftertaste series, amid the vines and countryside, at Australia’s only sister-run winery … a winery which has just had a $1 million refresh.

Looking for a family-friendly winery, where you can enjoy top drops, food, and scenery while the kids play?
Try Bremerton Wines. It’s located in South Australia’s Langhorne Creek wine region – about an hour’s drive from the CBD – and a swish tasting room has just been unveiled there alongside its 1866 stone barn cellar door.
Even better yet, Bremerton’s the first sister-run winery in Oz, headed up by siblings Rebecca and Lucy Willson, below. Go, girl power (to borrow from the Spice Girls)!
Brmerton Wines was established by the Willson family over 35 years ago, with the siblings second-generation winemakers.
Its $1 million expansion was built and partially designed by another local, family-owned company, Kennett Builders.
“Along with the tasting room,” Lucy says, “we now have a beautiful outdoor area with more seating, which gives visitors a chance to enjoy a glass of wine or local produce platters on the verandah, overlooking the lawn, or sit on a picnic rug or bean bag.”
There are games and balls to play with on the lawn.
Visitors now enter the winery over stairs, down a recycled timber arbour, through big, double timber doors to a large, airy tasting room. Here, you can enjoy a tasting plate of fresh produce to match the wine and special gin tastings, starting from $15 per head. (Yes, the ladies also have a small-batch gin label, appropriately named Willson, their surname!)
Rebecca says: “We chose materials for the new tasting room and extension that were sustainably sourced, recycled, and repurposed to maintain the integrity, character, and charm of the historic barn building while also modernising the space.”
There are touches from iconic local sites that tie in with the Willson family heritage throughout, including a Kadina railway gate, which is part of the fence, and timber in the arbour from the replica HMS Buffalo. Wine vats from Hardys Reynella and redgum sleepers from the local Wenzel family’s chook pen were also used in door lintels and sills.
The barn, meanwhile, continues to be used for indoor dining, serving a popular lunch menu including pizza and shared platters, plus a kids’ menu. It also houses renowned artist David Dridan OAM’s Barrel Ends art collection. As well, the upstairs space showcases local artists with exhibitions changing every six weeks.
Have an afternoon to while away with the kids? Bremerton is the perfect, dreamy spot!
What we like about it

- The siblings are second-generation winemakers.
- It’s such a scenic drive, amid the vines and countryside, to get there – yet still so close to the city.
- The food and wine is top-notch, and proudly local.
