Australian Company of Performing Arts Online Dance Classes

A lot of children’s activities have been suspended due to COVID-19, but students who attend ACPA are still experiencing their classes, just in a totally different format. Teachers are using video calls and live streams to maintain interaction with their students and it’s been incredibly positive.

“It’s important that all our beautiful students continue to receive their education and I am just fortunate that Dance and the performing arts is one of the sports where we able to move to online’ – says director Kim Grant-Taylor.

So what sort of benefits lie in doing online dance?

Kim Grant-Taylor lists many of the obvious reasons of which include increasing physical activity, the ability to interact with students and teachers and also the flexibility to do class at a time that is convenient for your household. But, what she notes as the biggest advantage is that the students are gaining an appreciation for what has been lost. They are starting to value the physical class environment and this is motivating them to keep focused on their goals to be ready to dance in the studio again.

Professor Blunden, a clinical psychologist and sleep specialist, notes that to promote the positive health of students maintaining regular routines is key and “what this school is allowing, is the opportunity for there to be a level of normality in these children’s lives”. This in turn, according to professor Blunden also helps to promote healthy sleep habits, all of which we as parents we want our kids to have.
