How Outdoor Play Makes for Strong, Confident & Capable Children

Angela Hanscom – A Session for parents to inspire and empower

Thanks to Inspired EC, Nature Play SA are delighted to offer a unique opportunity to hear from an internationally renowned speaker, Angela Hanscom, a US-based paediatric Occupational Therapist, mum and author of the book, Balanced & Barefoot: How Unrestricted Outdoor Play Makes for Strong, Confident and Capable Children.

As parents, we are all trying to raise strong, caring, resilient and confident children but our busy and sedentary lifestyles are having an impact on many children who are missing out on free and natural play opportunities.

Angela will share the developmental changes that are taking place in children today, decreased strength, underdeveloped balance systems and more. She will explain why more and more children are presenting with sensory, motor and social issues and why there is a decline in creativity and imaginative play abilities. But Angela will also help to uncover what we can do to reverse this trend by enabling our children to experience outdoor play in today’s world.

Angela has been featured on the Children & Nature Network, and in countless magazines, newspapers and websites. She founded a program in the US, Timber Nook which provides opportunities for children to experience all of the sensory stimulation provided in nature.

Angela will be visiting Adelaide for one day only on Thursday 19 January. Nature Play SA’s morning professional development session for educators and child health professionals has already sold out! However, places are still available for the evening information session, and they invite parents and community members to hear Angela share her insights about ‘how unrestricted Outdoor Play makes for strong, confident and capable children’.
